Bridal jewellery has always held a particular relationship with inheritance: stones reset into new settings, brooches borrowed for the ceremony, rings passed from one hand to another. Today, that language of the heirloom feels newly resonant.

The Indigo Court — Colour Study 👑💙

The Indigo Court begins with pigment and moves outward. Across South Asia, indigo carries a long history of dye, cloth and courtly dress, where colour and ornament became languages of ceremony and display; through trade and exchange, these saturated blues would also enter British wardrobes and interiors. Here, indigo moves through contemporary ceremony — from silk and sapphire to correspondence, confection, florals and architectural space — shifting between cobalt, cornflower, blue-grey and silver as material and light change its character. At the threshold of autumn and winter, these blues feel deeper, cooler and almost nocturnal: a study of colour as material, atmosphere and inheritance, from the intimacy of the jewel to the scale of the room.

The Architecture of Gathering — Five Studies of the Wedding Table

The wedding table might be understood as a form of temporary architecture: an arrangement that gives order to a room, establishes rhythm within a landscape and, for a few hours, determines how people gather.

Its geometry carries its own language — the long table draws the eye through a space with an almost processional quality; the curve interrupts formality and introduces movement; the circle turns inward towards a shared centre. Set against old stone, placed amongst trees or drawn through an open field, these forms begin to respond to their surroundings, much as an object responds to the architecture in which it is placed.

Linen, glass, flowers, candlelight and the repetition of chairs become compositional elements rather than decoration alone, creating proportion, contrast and atmosphere.

Perhaps this is where the wedding table becomes most interesting: not simply as something to be styled, but as a structure through which the gathering itself is choreographed.

Colour Study: Damson 🍇

A study in the first turn of autumn — damson purple, deepening fig green and the muted pinks of late-season flowers, a palette that seems to arrive with the shortening of the light. There is something distinctly painterly in these colours: the near-black skin of ripe fruit softened by its silvery bloom, green leaves grown darker and heavier at summer’s end, and flashes of faded rose recalling the fruit-and-flower compositions of historic still life.

Damson belongs to that fleeting moment of seasonal abundance, when the garden is still full but the evenings begin to draw inward; translated through velvet, florals, fruit, paper and table, its purple becomes less a decorative colour than an atmosphere — rich, shadowed and suggestive of the season beginning to change.

Six Jewellers Defining the Sculptural Form

Jewellery becomes something altogether when it moves beyond adornment and into the realm of sculpture — shaped by line, volume, texture and the intimate architecture of the body.

Colour Study: Mineral 🩵

A study in mineral, considered here as a chromatic register rather than a single hue — the atmospheric interval in which late-summer light begins its cooling toward dusk.

The palette is anchored by a Montana sapphire set in an engraved yellow-gold bombé ring, its warm metalwork holding the stone’s cool, geological blue in deliberate tension, much as goldsmiths of earlier centuries set gem against ground to heighten rather than harmonise — a tension that recurs in a gown embroidered with dusky mineral-toned thread, and most notably in a rare late-fifteenth-century French millefleurs tapestry, whose thousand woven flowers have, across five centuries, receded into a single unified field of muted, time-worn blue-green, pigment surrendering slowly to age.

The study extends into a faded blue buttercream cake, its lace-piped florals and blueberry-stained crumb echoing the tapestry’s softened palette, and into letterpress stationery, mineral-blue ink pressed into cotton fibre with the weight and permanence of an archival document — nothing here presented as new, each object selected instead for its evidence of duration, so that the palette reads not as a seasonal observation but as a material history, in which even the last hour of summer light appears to have already been catalogued.
