A face emerges from the chaos. 🖤
.
In Shaun 4, Harry Simmonds builds a compelling portrait through restless marks, sweeping gestures, and striking black-and-white contrasts. Ink and acrylic collide across the paper, shifting between concealment and revelation, abstraction and recognition.
.
Raw, intimate and full of tension, the work invites us to look closer. What do we see in a face — and what remains just beyond our gaze?

Born in Bristol and now based in Bath, Simmonds has spent over two decades refining a striking monochromatic style. Working in black, white, and grey, his paintings move between figurative art and abstraction. Faces and bodies emerge through energetic marks, fluid washes, rich textures and expressive gestures, capturing both the sitter’s presence and the artist’s unmistakable hand. taken in Walcot St, Bath by @atelier.rad

Atelier Rad presents The Weight of a Look, a solo exhibition by Bath-based artist Harry Simmonds, opening October 2026. Through haunting monochrome paintings, figures emerge from shadow, caught between memory and immediacy. Existing works meet a new series created for the exhibition, inviting intimate encounters with presence, vulnerability and perception. taken in Walcot St, Bath by @atelier.rad
