I'm very grateful that "Buoyant Echoes" sold to a new collector in Sydney and arrived safely after a cross country journey. #coastalinteriordesign #sydneyart #interiordesign #openartstudio #mixedmediaart #beachstyling #mandurahart #australianart #abstractart #fineart #joievilleneuve #mandurahartist #contemporaryart #oceanart #artcollector #modernart #abstractpainting #modernabstract #iconography #monoprinting #abstractexpressionism #australianartist #symbolisminart by @atelierdejoie
Green often gives me this sense of grounding and peace. I can almost smell the dew drying on spring foliage or the grass being cut ☺️ What does it remind you of? Every time I see this painting it makes me think of the time I went swimming in the ocean at night. It was so calm but there was this heightened awareness of the mystery below. Shades of blues over the last 9 years! This is where my heart skips a beat and I am floating in the ocean fully supported and engulfed in the wonder of it all. There's something I really love about the colour pink in a painting. There's this sense of warmth and familiar love. How does it make you feel? "Holding to Contain" is a large mixed media painting of recurring symbols—buoys, boats, and nautical markers—drawn from years of visual language and reassembled as spiritual signposts. I've been using these forms that hover between weight and lift, vessel and guide to talk about ascension not as escape, but as containment: the quiet discipline of holding what is nourishing, luminous, and true. Which feels needed now more than ever. Rising to the surface becomes an inner act—one of gathering, tending, and allowing goodness to carry us upward. Upward and Inward! Sometimes you wait and wait for a painting to tell you what it wants to be only to learn that it just wanted you to catch up. Final paintings in a series referencing buoys and seascapes as symbols. (Abstract symbolic mixed media painting on canvas, referencing buoys, water, Oceanside sunsets, rock walls, and the buoyancy felt when rising above those walls and letting go completely) by @atelierdejoie
As I begin packing up my paints and sketchbooks today I'm reflecting on what a truly special month this has been. On September 1st I embarked on a 30 day self-created artist residency in Pemberton, Western Australia. And what a month of deep, rich contemplation and art exploration it has been. I had only one rule or guideline for myself and that was that I couldn't "produce" any finished work. I wanted to explore, investigate, be curious and create situations for surprise. I wanted to gather a new visual language and discover new insights into my personal iconography through play and being open to materials and possibilities. During the last month I engaged with #insightcreative30daychallenege2026 nearly every day I worked in my sketchbook and allowed the prompts to guide those initial explorations in the studio. It was so meaningful to me to have this as a tool. (I highly recommend checking it out - @insightcreativecoaching if it's something that interests you) Something I discovered while on this journey was how much I loved drawing with charcoal en Plein air. I was able to capture the essence of place in ways that were really exciting. Here's only a few studies from my month away. I'll post more soon! Thanks for having a look and going on an adventure with me. #artresidency #artsketchbook #artstudio #enpleinairpainting by @atelierdejoie
"Held By Water" at John Curtin Gallery. A very large piece that I think about all the time, how I feel and what it means to me. With a message about carrying us between waves of surrender and renewal—reminding us we will always rise to the surface. Slowing down in the quiet between shifting worlds. Exhibition Open: 18 September – 6 December 2026 #radicalfutures #regionalartstriennialwa #johncurtingallery #perthart #installationart by @atelierdejoie
I am honoured to have this work, Held By Water, included in this survey exhibition at John Curtin University. Opens to the public tonight for a preview from 5:30-7:30. I will be there this evening for this very special event and would love to share the meaning of this work with you. More information: Exhibition Open: 18 September – 6 December 2026 John Curtin Gallery Curtin University, 200A, Kent St, Bentley. WA 6102, Australia Regional Arts Triennial – Radical Futures brings together 49 artists to consider how regional communities imagine, make and care for the future. The diverse site-responsive and often collaborative approaches presented in Radical Futures reflect on cultural continuity and ecological responsibility interwoven with stories of migration, belonging and community resilience. Their works reflect the specific conditions of place while also speaking to broader questions about how we live together, care for the environment and respond to an increasingly uncertain world. Radical Futures is drawn from 13 regional exhibitions across Western Australia, each shaped by local curatorial perspectives and grounded in the stories, environments and aspirations of their communities. Developed over 2025 and 2026, the resulting exhibition at John Curtin Gallery reveals both the diversity and interconnectedness of regional experience across the state. Lead Curator Sarah Roots describes Radical Futures as a reciprocal and nurturing project that cuts through the extractive grind of everyday life and creates space for genuine connection and vision. Ngullar kaditj nidja Curtin mia mia Whadjuk Noongar boodjar kura yeye boorda.    We acknowledge this place called Curtin is on Whadjuk Noongar lands from the past, today and in the future. We acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the Country our Art Gallery sits on and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, sea and community, and pay respects to past, present and emerging Elders. by @atelierdejoie
