There is a lot that goes into making a scene look as beautiful and grand as it does on screen. For Krishna, the headgear was made in solid copper rather than keeping it light or flimsy. The intention was to give it the weight, structure and presence it would have had, while making it feel as realistic and regal as possible. With so much colour and movement around him during the Raas Leela, Krishna’s costume was intentionally kept simple. He stayed in a singular peetambar, reflecting his identity as the Vishnu avatar, allowing him to stand apart from the larger visual composition. The Raas Leela song was always going to be one of the most exciting parts of Krishnavataram. When the first costume presentation was being put together, the choreography wasn’t even fully defined. The only thought was that there could be a water body, with the dancers coming together like the petals of one enormous lotus. That became the starting point for the ombre pinks across the dancers costumes. For Radha, the inspiration moved to the peacock, very much rooted in Vrindavan. The timeline was one of the biggest challenges with Krishnavataram, but the intention was always to keep the process as handcrafted as possible. From pot dyeing, hand painting, hand-block printing and hand embroidery to jewellery that was hand-beaten and hand-moulded in copper, brass, silver and gold, every craft was given its time and place. For Krishnavataram, the challenge was bringing together scale and realism, staying rooted in scripture while creating a visual world that feels relevant to a new generation. The journey began with pencils, illustrations and hand-drawn sketches in 2023 and evolved with the times. That was the starting point for the costumes of Krishnavataram. Some songs don’t leave you—they linger. ✨ Shyamal Sanware has been one of those songs for me. @prasad.sashte Sir’s soul-stirringcomposition, @irshadkamilofficial sir’s beautiful lyrics, and the magic in @sonunigamofficial and @neetimohan18 ‘s voices and breathtaking choreography by @iamkrutimahesh made it impossible for the dancer in me to stay still. Even months after the release of @krishnavataramthemovie , I found myself wanting to create something inspired by it. Every time I watch the song, I’m left in awe of @sush_bhat as Radha and @siddharthhgupta as Krishna. The grace, devotion, and emotion they bring to the screen are simply mesmerizing. 🤍 This choreography is just a small tribute to a song I truly love. A heartfelt thank you to @deepikapoo and @bhatt_shaantt for helping me bring this shoot to life.
