Some finish lines don’t just end a race — they tell a story.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of capturing the final few metres of two absolute monsters — the Khardung La Challenge and the Silk Route Ultra.

Exhaustion. Relief. Tears. Pride. And that unmistakable look of someone who has just discovered how far they can really go.

At this altitude, every finish is more than a result. It’s a memory earned the hard way.

BADWATER 135

Part 3 – One Step at a Time

After a 30-minute power nap at Panamint Springs, I felt just enough energy to take on Father Crowley.

The climb never seemed to end. Every turn promised the summit, only to reveal more climbing. But every Badwater runner knows, reach the top, and you’re one step closer to becoming a finisher.

At the summit, a volunteer smiled and said, “You’re home.”

Those words meant everything.

But there were still nearly 50 miles to go.

The course kept climbing, and one thought echoed in my mind:

“Kab khatam hogi yeh peeda?”

As the second night set in, exhaustion took over. The bushes along the road turned into giant animals. I was hallucinating.

A 30-minute nap at Darwin got me moving again.

On the way to Lone Pine, I tried running. My legs held up, but my bladder didn’t. Every step hurt, and I started passing blood.

I stopped running.

From there, it was simple. One step at a time.

Reaching Lone Pine around 10 AM, I saw my kids, family and friends waiting. Hugging my children after everything I’d endured became one of the most emotional moments of my life. I wanted them to remember not a father who finished a race, but one who never stopped moving forward.

After a quick reset, only one challenge remained - the final 12-mile climb to Mount Whitney Portal.

Every step reminded me of the cramps, vomiting, hallucinations, sleep deprivation and blood in my urine.

There were painful and discouraging moments. But never a moment of self-doubt.

The pace changed. The race plan changed. The destination never changed.

And finally I reached Mount Whitney Portal.

I became a Badwater 135 Finisher.

Looking back, I don’t remember the pain as much as the privilege of being there.

To my incredible crew - thank you for carrying me when my body couldn’t.

To Chris Kostman, the Badwater team, volunteers and medical staff - thank you for creating an experience that humbles every runner.

And finally to Death Valley, Thank you for testing me, humbling me, and reminding me that the toughest journeys are never just about finishing.

Nothing can truly beat this experience.

BADWATER 135

Part 2 – When the Race Plan Changed

Standing at the start line, I had just one thought: No matter what happens over the next 135 miles, I’m going to enjoy this race.

After a restless day filled with excitement, final race prep, and the drive from Lone Pine to Badwater Basin, I stood at the lowest point in North America feeling calm. My training hadn’t gone perfectly, but I trusted my race plan.

The race began exactly as I had hoped. I reached Furnace Creek in 2:42, right on target.

A few kilometres later, everything changed.

Without warning, both calves cramped - something I had never experienced in any ultra. Soon after, I started vomiting, bringing back memories of Spartathlon and WSU race where it forced me to DNF.

At that moment, my original race plan was over.

It became simple:
Run. Walk. Recover. Repeat.

That rhythm carried me to Stovepipe Wells (8:27) before the climb to Towne Pass began.

Then came the worst cramps of my life. My muscles seemed to have a mind of their own. For nearly 15 minutes I screamed in pain while my crew fought to settle the spasms. Eventually, I lay inside the crew vehicle for over an hour, physically and mentally broken.

Then my Crew Chief, Dave, looked at me and asked,
“Do you still want this?”

I nodded.

He smiled and said,
“Go get it.”

Those three words became my new race plan.

I stopped chasing pace and time. From that moment, the only goal was to finish Badwater.

Step by step, I climbed all 5,000 ft of Towne Pass. The cramps eased, but the vomiting continued. I resisted the temptation to attack the 8-mile downhill, knowing more than half the race still remained.

By now, the temperature had climbed to 52°C.

At Panamint Springs, my crew helped me reset with food, recovery, and a much-needed 60mins break including 30-minute power nap.

The body had survived the first half.

The second half was about to test something much deeper.

Thin air. Loud silence.
No crowd. No shortcuts.

Just you…
and everything you’re made of.

At this altitude,
your lungs don’t lie
your legs don’t fake
your mind doesn’t hide

Ladakh doesn’t test your speed.
It reveals your truth.

Every step here is earned.
Every breath is a decision.

This isn’t just running.
This is exposure.

⸻

Run where excuses can’t survive.

It was T-minus 1 at the Athelin store in Gurgaon for Red Stone Ultra 2026. Runners both familiar faces and first-timers walked in buzzing with excitement to collect their bibs.

And honestly, they had every reason to be excited. This wasn’t a candy store for kids, it was a candy store for runners. The most advanced gear they could dream of wasn’t on a screen today, it was right within arm’s reach. Watches, vests, belts, gels, electrolytes you name it, the Athelin folks had it covered.

What stood out even more was the spirit of partnership. Many runners weren’t just picking up bibs for themselves, but also for their running buddies who couldn’t make it to the expo.
Smiling, nervous, excited, and happy faces walked out of the store, carrying gear and big expectations for race day tomorrow. And at Hell Race, we’re doing everything we can to make sure those expectations are met.

With that, we call it a day.
See you all at the starting line tomorrow! 🏁🔥
