Queen Mochi birthed her babies on Friday, 3 July, and has rarely left their side since. She's overly protective, hissy and territorial, and we love a gal with excellent boundaries.

Continuing on this lil bloop train, I give you: "Blue Bloops!"

Born of silliness, a commitment to just doing art for art's sake, and radically resisting a.i. garbage, I am just wholeheartedly leaning into doing the art badly and seeing what happens.

Tiny Story: yesterday I was vending at the Toronto Queer Market. Not my first time, but definitely the first time I've had art on the table and didn't feel the need to apologize for it, or get caught up in the mistakes or flaws in how a print or piece turned out.

And... People loved the things I make. People bought the things I make! 🙈

So, please, for the love of all that's good and green in this world: make the damn art. Make it poorly. Make it silly. Make it and never show it to anybody. Make it and show it to everybody. Just make stuff with your own two hands, your toes, your mouth, whatever part of you that you wanna use to make art, just friggin make stuff.

You just might like it.

It's been a minute since I posted anything here.

There's a walk tomorrow here in Tkaronto, organized and supported by people who continue to destroy people, lives, make-shift homes... children. So. Many. Children.

I didn't know if I should post this piece, it's filled with such sorrow and such rage. But I'm also an art therapist, so where better to put our sorrows than in art that can hold it for us?

If you're counter protesting here in Tkaronto tomorrow, I send the smoke of sage and the prayers of tobacco to keep you as safe as possible.

I will wear my watermelon earrings, my keffiyeh, and my landback shirt.

If you are of displacement, know that the land hasn't forgotten you. We are the land and the land is us.

May we live to see a world where we can be whole, healing, and helping humyns.

It's been a large time over here in Athena-land.

In the last three months we've: closed out the old apt in Kjipuktuk, been back to Mi'kma'ki twice, sourced and settled into a new studio space at Flick the Switch, and moved from one Tkaronto apartment to another. 🫠

The universe has gifted me a bit of breathing space here in March, and while some of that space feels crunchy, it's not unwelcome.

So, while not everything at the new apartment has a place yet, I did take a minute to catch my breath and do a lil neurographic watercolor practice. It's very easy to do, it's never the same way twice, and I've finally broken out of the habit of not using the "good" art supplies... I used the Beam paints, the fancy brush, and some lovely mixed media paper in a big 'ol sketchbook.

Baby Nova also found their way into my playlist and I'm enjoying this new-to-me jam.

What are you making these days? What's your practice look like? Are you finding some softness amongst the noise?
