Athina’s Ride will be at Oyama Community Hall on June 27th!! Lead by Athina Merckx and special guest Owen Vermeulen.

This is a great opportunity to spin the legs, meet fellow riders, and spend some time with the Okanagan Graveller community before Sunday’s event.

Participation is by donation, with all proceeds going toward desmoid tumour research.

Please note that space is limited and registration is required to participate. This ride is available only to those who have already signed up in advance. With limited numbers, participants will enjoy a more personal riding experience and the unique opportunity to spend time on a private ride with both Owen Vermeulen and Athina Merckx, hear their stories, ask questions, and share the road with two inspiring ambassadors of the cycling community.

Just over $18,000 was raised at this year’s @okanagangraveller!!! Huge thanks to everyone who fundraised, donated, and rode with us. We couldn’t do it without all of you.

The work is not done yet! Our fundraising page is still open.

RUN FOR RARE ❤️🏃

On Sunday, August 16, I'm taking on my biggest running challenge yet—80 km (50 miles) around Wood Lake—to raise $1,000 for the Desmoid Tumor Foundation of Canada.

I'm doing this for one of my closest friends, Athina, who was diagnosed with Desmoid Fibromatosis at just 15 years old. It's a rare disease that affects only 2–4 people per million, and I hope this run can help raise both awareness and funds for research.

This isn't a race, it's a community run. Whether you want to run one loop (17 km), a few loops, ride your bike alongside, hang out at the aid station, or simply come cheer, I'd love to have you there. I'll have my car set up as an aid station, making it easy to refuel, take a break, and spend the day together.

Wether you are able to join or not, I'd be incredibly grateful if you'd make a donation. Every dollar helps support research, education, and awareness for those living with desmoid tumors. If donating isn't possible, sharing this post is another amazing way to support the cause.

From grassroots to global impact 💛

Since 2017, the Desmoid Tumour Foundation of Canada has proudly funded $595,638 CAD in research — with a total commitment of $727,518 CAD toward advancing the understanding and treatment of desmoid tumours.

This work has supported leading researchers and institutions around the world — from Canada to the U.S., Europe, and beyond — all working toward better outcomes for patients living with this rare disease.

From early-stage tumor biology…
To breakthrough treatment pathways…
To cutting-edge AI models predicting disease progression…

Every dollar raised is pushing the science forward.

Athina’s Ride is back.

What started as a small community ride has already helped fund three research grants through the Desmoid Tumor Foundation of Canada thanks to the incredible support of this community.

This June, we ride again.

Join us June 27 at the Oyama Community Hall during Okanagan Graveller weekend for a community gravel ride led by Athina.

This past weekend Athina had the honour of attending the Together We Will Weekend in Chicago with the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation. 💙

She was able to meet the physicians and researchers whose work has been funded through the money raised by Athina’s Ride for the Desmoid Tumour Foundation of Canada.

It was such a privilege for her to connect with the incredible people who are dedicating their lives to finding a cure and better treatments for this rare disease. Meeting them was a powerful reminder of just how important every dollar raised truly is. 💙
