Last week, I had the chance to take part in an international seminar on federalism on the Italian island of Ventotene.
Up until a year ago, I saw federalism as just some form of government you find in various places around the world, totally irrelevant to our conflict here.

But over the past year, ever since joining the youth movement @atid_fed, my whole perspective changed. My involvement with the movement led me to join this seminar organized by @jef_europe whose goal is to promote European integration.

For a week, we learned together and hung out on this small island where the Italian politician Altiero Spinelli was imprisoned during World War II. While incarcerated, he and other activists wrote the Ventotene Manifesto, laying out the vision for a united Europe @istitutospinelli. After his release, he began pushing the idea forward and came to be known as one of the founding fathers of the EU.

It was super interesting to hear firsthand about the challenges, debates, and hopes driving young political activists in Europe today. The place their countries managed to reach after centuries of internal wars is genuinely inspiring. We’re in a completely different situation here in the Middle East, but so were they once - history can surprise us, and change can actually happen.

During the seminar, I also had the privilege to present, together with @nagham.gn our joint work in @atid_fed and @dfh.palestine in front of dozens of young Europeans - sharing our vision for a clear-eyed, realistic political path for our land - and to participate in a panel on global federalism hosted by @worldfederalist .

🕊️ What can a federal future for Israel and Palestine look like? And what role are we playing in shaping it already today?

On 15 September at 19:30, we’re bringing the Federalist Peace Forum to Brussels for a special evening at the JEF Europe office.

Meet young federalists from Israel and Palestine who are working to build an alternative based on democracy, equality, cooperation and federalism. Representatives of @atid_fed and @dfh.palestine will share their vision, their work and what comes next.

💬 They’ll be joined by @cintagsentis from FYEG and @t0mmymonahan from LYMEC, moderated by @its.mo.you.know. We are ending the evening with an informal networking get-together.

We are excited to announce that the next edition of the Federalist Peace Forum, FPF 2026, will take place in France!

On November 23-28, Federalists from Europe, Palestine, and Israel will come to the European capital of Strasbourg. There, they will learn how European integration began as a peace project, deepen their understanding of federalism, conduct advocacy in the European Parliament, and will take another small step into solving one of the most complex conflicts in the world.
