If you ever wondered what would happen when Stepford Wives meets The Thing, this is it! It's the ultimate 80s suburban nightmare, and I absolutely devoured it.

The vibe is 80's suburban upper middle class... perfect lawns, perfect children, manicured hands and not a hair out of place, everything and everyone is perfectly aligned, well except one person...Mrs. Smith.

We’ve got a group of suburban women, who are stuck on the "Perfect Wife" culture, striving for the perfect body, perfect house, perfect career, all while secretly wanting to rip each other's hair out. We get:

•Elaine Bernstein, a mama bear that would do ANYTHING for her baby's Bar Mitzvah to go well. •Natalie Scott, a mom of three, recently back in the workforce trying to make her way into Realtor royalty.
•Beth Pulaski, a hot child-free young wife who has struggles of her own, and can make some mean ass cookies.
•Una Einarsson, a softhearted yet strong housekeeper than won't take shit from anyone. •Jill Scott, Natalie's 12yo daughter, an inspiring writter that is just trying her best to be a good daughter, student and friend.
•Mrs. Smith, the mysterious, agoraphobic neighbor living in a crumbling seaside mansion who suddenly decides to step outside, and she just isn't an eccentric lady, she's way more than that.

Everything changes when Mrs. Bernstein is planning the perfect bar mitzvah for her little treasure and unites the gang to help her convince Mrs. Smith to allow fireworks for the festivities to be perfect, even if it kills them.

What makes this book a banger is how Ellery uses a literal monster to mirror the inner rage and toxic perfectionism of these women. The pacing is a total page-turner, 80s nostalgia is flawlessly executed. It’s campy, feminist, heartfelt, gory and gloriously weird.

I loved all the characters and could relate so much to the ambition and flaws of each, striving and struggling to be the perfect version of themselves through someone else's eyes.

If you enjoy a book with multiple POV, kickass women and creature feature, this book is totally for you!

My pre-order for "I Hope This Email Finds You In Hell" from Burn Bright Books came in today as well as my new waterbottle, bookish edition! I'm super excited to get into this book while a sip some ice cold water!

I loved all the recommended books, even the ones I won't re-read for my psychological health 🫣

🐎👻🫶🏽The Haunting🫶🏽👻🐎

Of Hillwood Farm

If you love romance but are ready for spooky season, what better way to start off with the best of both worlds this summerween season? Also this is super friendly for people that haven't really read horror and are ready to explore the genre!

We start off with Callie, a medium, who was contacted by the owner of Hillwood Farm, Alice, whom is having some odd things happen in the house, things are moving, unexplained writting and she is really freaking out! That is when a friend of a friend directs her to Callie, whom is slightly reluctant, but willing to help. Then Luke, grandson of Alice is a full skeptic, convinced that Callie is just out to scam them gets a rude awakening as things progressed. (Seriously Luke, it's literally happening in front of you!)

I listened to this one in a day, and I really enjoyed the narrator, Kristin James, she really did an outstanding job as Callie as well as managing to keep the illusion of being several characters by one voice!

This book was a perfect blend between cozy, horror & romance, and a bit of thriller. I was absorbed by the atmosphere of the farm as well as yelling at Luke for being a skeptic! The parts where the haunting (and hunting) were happening to Callie while alone were really creepy and unsettling if you're reading at night! Loved that the romance didn't feel forced and was slow and steady, a good build up!

If you want a cozy horror with romance and thriller vibes, this is a great addition for your Summerween TBR as well as spooky season!

I was away this weekend and the hubs put some boxes away that I hadn't got to yet, some more exciting mail!

Huge thanks to @abookishcookie for giving me these precious ARCs! I love collecting them! These are treasures to me! 🫶🏽

Also huge shout out to @bookofthemonth my August box got lost/stolen and I emailed them and they right away sent me a replacement! Their customer service was top tier!

Also caught a sale for Illumicrate and got these beautiful special editions of Andrew White's books.

And last but not least, I'm ALWAYS on the hunt for Eric LaRocca's indie books, and when I was this one on ebay I ran to get it. I have the vast majority of his books just missing one, Starving Ghosts In Every Thread, and if you have it or know someone that has it and want to sell it for a decent price (not an arm and a leg) lets talk! (If you haven't noticed, Eric is literally my fav)

Thank you to Sav for gifting me these babies for my ARC collection and thanks to BOTM for being awesome to their clients!
