Anthony Yew is an artist from New Jersey. His works deal with the mystery of expression and conception through abstracted use of symbols, forms, and figures. The endeavor to render and capture the spiritual and material worlds is a prevailing theme throughout his works. The collection splits into two main mediums of expression: paintings that exist as icons, and asemic writings that persist as artifacts. As a painter, his practice is governed by the transformation of the image into the enchanted object. The painted work stands as an icon for contemplation, with the image cast into being from spirited inspiration and brought into the material world. As a “writer”, the asemic script is expressed as a record of meditation. Here, he plays the role of the mystic, where glyphs, symbols, and patterns emerge from rhythm and intuition and are rendered and divinated as testimonies of sacred time.
