Hi, my name is Alyssa, and I am a recovering addict. 🤍

Today marks 6 whole years clean and sober.
September 14, 2020 — the day I decided to start fresh. The day I chose a different life. The day I chose me.

Six years later, I can honestly say that choosing sobriety was the best decision I have ever made.

This past year has been an absolute whirlwind. It has brought me more blessings than I could have imagined, along with some challenges I never expected. I bought a house. I moved to South Carolina. I found a job that I absolutely love. I started school to become a Nurse Practitioner. I lost friendships that I thought would last forever, while also gaining friendships that I know will last a lifetime.

Life has been crazy, beautiful, heartbreaking, exciting, and everything in between. And this year has taught me so much about myself—about growth, boundaries, gratitude, resilience, and learning to trust that sometimes losing people or things is simply making room for something better.

This has been one of the hardest years of my sobriety, but it has also been one of the most beautiful.

When I’m not working or studying, you’ll usually find me reading, running, working out, spending time with my friends and family, traveling, being outdoors, or shopping. These things aren’t necessarily new discoveries, but sobriety has taught me to be intentional with how I spend my time and, more importantly, who I spend it with. I no longer take the little things for granted.

Six years ago, I wasn’t sure what my life would look like. I just knew I wanted to live.

Six years and a day ago, I decided my life was worth fighting for.

Every day isn’t easy—and it isn’t supposed to be. Life still comes with heartbreak, disappointment, stress, and challenges. The difference is that today, I know how to face those things without running from them. I have the tools, the support, and the strength to get through the hard days.

I’ve learned that sobriety isn’t just about putting down the drink or the drugs. It’s about learning how to live. It’s about becoming someone I’m proud of. It’s about showing up for myself and for the people I love. It’s about finding joy in the ordinary and be by @atoneyyy
