This building has lived many lives.

It began as a medicine factory.
Then, it became home to the Anderson Daily Bulletin.
Later, it was JC Sales Toy Store.
And for nearly two decades, it served as the Madison County Correctional Complex.

Today, its purpose is healing.

Every day, these doors welcome people carrying something different:

Stress.
Grief.
Anxiety.
Burnout.
Anger.
Longing.

Our hope is that they leave carrying a little less.

Not because this place has all the answers, but because healing often begins when someone finally feels safe enough to slow down.

That’s who we are.

A community that believes healing should be accessible.
That everyone deserves to be cared for.
That small moments of restoration can change lives.

Whether you’re looking for a yoga class, a massage, a guided meditation, a meaningful gift, or simply a quiet place to wander, you’re welcome here. Browse the boutique. Take in the local art. Ask for a tour. You don’t need an appointment or a reason. We’d simply love to meet you.

Did you know Studio Zen also has a nonprofit?

The Studio Zen Foundation exists to remove barriers to healing through restorative experiences, education, and community outreach.

When you come here to heal, you’re helping someone else in our community heal, too. A portion of every service and every boutique purchase supports that mission.

Every service received truly becomes a service passed on.

One year ago today, Studio Zen opened its doors.

Thank you to every person who has trusted us with a small part of your journey. And thank you to everyone who has believed in this mission, shared our story, and helped Studio Zen become what it is today.

Here’s to another year of helping people carry a little less.

Happy First Birthday, Studio Zen!

If our mission resonates with you, we’d be honored if you shared this post. Every share helps more people discover Studio Zen, and every new connection helps us expand the work of the Studio Zen Foundation. 💕 by @atownstudiozen

Woke up tired and heavy again this morning.
So much to do.
Never enough time.
Problems to solve.
Regrets to quiet.
Anxiety to manage.
Expectations to meet.

And then—a little miracle happened:

When I walked downstairs to “open” the studio, I found one of our beautiful yogis already on her mat, bathed in morning sunlight, soaking up her practice. I stood there watching, wishing I could step into that same magic. I’ve been craving yoga in my own space, but I keep telling myself I don’t have time.

Yet she has three children, a full-time job, and is starting her own business. And still—she paused. She gave herself that gift. What if I did the same? What if I stopped pushing and simply allowed my body and mind the peace they’re begging for?

I told myself, maybe tomorrow. Not today.

But then another little miracle.

As I sat down at the front desk, a wave of yellow shirts passed by the window. I ran outside to see. “12 Miles for Recovery,” the shirts read. Young women walking with purpose, some carrying babies—one barely four or five months old.

And right there in the middle of them, I immediately saw two people I know. Two people carrying just as many—if not more—burdens than me. Yet they dropped whatever they had going on to show up, to walk, to celebrate recovery.

It hit me hard. The courage. The commitment. The reminder that healing is not about “finding time”—it’s about making space. It’s about showing up for ourselves in the middle of the chaos, the exhaustion, the overwhelm.

Maybe I don’t need to wait for tomorrow after all. by @atownstudiozen

Four years ago, Chuck and I took our students on a field trip through downtown Anderson to see firsthand the growth, possibility, and people investing in our community.

One of our stops was Buckskin Bikes, where owner Ben shared why he chose Anderson as the place to build his business.

How lucky are we to have a place as cool as Buckskin Bikes right here in downtown Anderson?!!

Even if you’re not in the market for a bike, this place is worth a visit! They have the coolest T-shirts and stickers, and the transformation of the old building is definitely worth seeing.

My friend teaches at Summit Salon Academy. After the mannequin heads have been cut, colored, styled, and practiced on until there’s nothing left to work with, they’re discarded.

Except Nicole started rescuing them from the dumpster and turning them into the coolest, most beautiful planters.

And I kind of love everything about that: Something headed for the trash, given a little imagination, a little care, and a completely new purpose.

And now, something GROWS from it!!!

Tell me that isn’t absolutely perfect for Studio Zen.

Anderson, THIS is one of those stories we should know.

Deon Parson, better known as Supr Dee, is a nationally syndicated cartoonist with deep roots right here in Anderson.

Deon graduated from Anderson High School in 2013, where he drew cartoons for the school newspaper. And some of the people, places and experiences from his years here eventually found their way into his work.

Today, Deon is the creator of Rosebuds, a nationally syndicated comic strip.

The strip follows three sisters, Rosa, Maria and Maricela. They were named after and loosely inspired by friends Deon knew at Anderson High School, along with his own experiences growing up with sisters and other family members.

And the Anderson connections keep going.

The school in Rosebuds is named Anderson-Highland High School. Principal Pickett was named after Ellen Finney Pickett, one of Deon’s former ACS teachers who went on to become a principal at Highland.

And, Anderson isn’t just where Deon is from. Pieces of this city quite literally live inside his art!

We are lucky enough to have a little piece of Rosebuds at Studio Zen too. Deon drew one right on our bathroom wall!

Deon was mentored by Jim Davis, creator of Garfield, who helped him get his comics into local newspapers.

Years later, Rosebuds made its national newspaper debut, making Deon the FIRST Black Indiana cartoonist to have a nationally syndicated comic strip since the 1920s.

His work can now be found in major publications across the country and beyond, and right here at home in The Herald Bulletin.

Earlier this year, Anderson High School welcomed Deon back and unveiled a Rosebuds mural in his honor.

And now another full-circle moment is happening downtown.

This Friday, the Anderson Museum of Art opens The Funny Pages: A Comic Strip Exhibition, featuring 40+ Indiana artists, including Jim Davis and, proudly, Anderson’s own Supr Dee.

There is something pretty special about a kid drawing cartoons in the Anderson High School newspaper growing up to see his work syndicated across the country and displayed in his hometown museum.

This one is ours, Anderson.

And we should be INCREDIBLY proud. by @atownstudiozen

This morning, we joined Cerenity Recovery Café for their 2nd Annual “Recovery in Motion Walk" celebrating people in our community doing incredibly hard work
EVERY.
SINGLE.
DAY.

Choosing differently.
Beginning again.
Taking the next step,
even when it isn’t easy.

Recovery takes courage.
It takes honesty.
It takes getting up and choosing the next step over and over again.

Healing doesn’t happen all at once.
It happens one day,
one step,
one moment at a time.

And none of us should have to do our healing alone. We all deserve people along the way reminding us to keep going.

We see you.
We’re cheering for you.

Keep going! 💪🏽🖤🤍 by @atownstudiozen

Meet Zennie! He's living in the moment at his new home at @atownstudiozen ! We had so much fun painting their logo on his hat for this custom travel gnome. If you've never been you have to go check it out. The Himalayan salt meditation room is incredible, but there's so much more to experience there.

Follow his journey in the app, or get your own custom gnome today!
