It’s incredible how fast time flies when you’re dealing with an unfathomable loss. It’s a year today since my father left us and it still feels just like it was yesterday that I was getting that panicked text from my mother in the middle of the night …

The fact that he passed one week before I was due back in Nigeria to see him, constantly stabs at my heart. I had all these plans I’d made, all these things I was going to do to make up for lost time and just like that, gone. Maybe one day I’ll be able to get over it but it’s a struggle.

It’s been a strange, surreal time since. These days I grow more appreciative of the time we had with him, and think less of what I could have done to keep him here longer. They say that’s the final stage of grief … acceptance. Maybe they’re right … Personally I’d rather just have my dad back on the phone talking shit about Donald Trump with me.

It’s been such a rough 12 months, probably the worst 12 months of my life tbh. But recently I’ve started to feel a bit more like myself, and the gym has been a huge part of that … #gymtherapy

Life lately …

I don’t like the holidays, not-so-great things tend to usually happen to me right around them. So unlike most people, I actually brace for impact once it gets to that last quarter of the year while others get excited. This year it was brutal … and I’m not just talking about losing my father, but I have to believe that it’s going to get better …

So as the clock ticks down to end this year and I look out on the city thinking about my life, and where things go from here all I can do is hope that next year brings me better tidings … by @atrustfundbaby
