💫 If someone monkey branched out of your relationship, this is what actually happened:

They avoided the ending while your nervous system absorbed the shock.

That's why it feels destabilizing and devastating.
This isn't about your self-worth. It's about attachment injury.

🚩🚩Most people think the avoidant's “break” was about space. Not always.. but sometimes unhealed avoidant's are

TROLLING THE ROSTER

While you were trying to understand what went wrong. They were emotionally detaching and redirecting their attention elsewhere.

Monkey Branching

This is what makes avoidant dynamics so destabilizing. You’re left confused while they create distance and backup.

And when they do come back? The relationship is already downgraded. Your nervous system will pay the price every time you re-enter that cycle.

I don’t teach you how to get them back. I teach you how to stop being attracted to this pattern entirely.

If this hits, save it. Because this is the part your mind will try to romanticize later. taken in San Francisco Bay Area by @attachment_shift

✨ Hi, I'm Renée.

I don't teach relationship advice.
I teach pattern interruption.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For years I repeated my childhood
in every relationship I chose.

As a fearful avoidant I confused anxiety with chemistry and was drawn to emotional unavailability.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I had the degrees. I understood systems.

I spent years in public service
watching how broken patterns
repeat inside broken structures.

But I couldn't see the broken structure inside myself.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Until I understood:
attachment, trauma, & my nervous system was making my choices before I ever could.

That changed everything.

That's why I created Silent Exit™.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Not to explain avoidant partners.

But to help people stop abandoning themselves
in the name of love.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

If you're done with almost-love,
emotional whiplash,
and relationships that almost work

You're in the right place. 🤍

💔 Avoidants don’t look outside the relationship because they found someone “better.”

A lot of the time, they do it to escape the discomfort of real emotional intimacy.
Low-pressure connections can feel safer than deep vulnerability.

The painful truth is they didn’t always pull away because the connection wasn’t real.
Sometimes they pulled away because it felt too intense for their emotional capacity…

💔 Waiting for an Avoidant who never commits... This is the most painful part of a situationship and limerence: you know what they’ve given you, but you’re still hoping for what it could become.

You slept together. Talked for hours. Shared things you don’t tell just anyone. Then somehow asking “What are we doing?” felt like asking too much.

So you tried to keep it easy. Gave them space. Accepted less contact than you wanted because you didn’t want to lose the little you had.

Now you’re trying to get over someone you feel embarrassed to admit you’re grieving.

“It wasn’t even a relationship.”

But tell that to the part of you that still looks for their name on your phone.

Maybe you’re holding onto that one weekend, that conversation, that moment when they made you feel certain. You keep returning to it, looking for proof that waiting wasn’t a mistake.

How much longer do you want to keep accepting uncertainty because you’ve already invested so much?

You don’t have to stop caring before you decide this is costing you too much. You never needed to apologize for wanting a relationship.

💔 Many avoidants have one person they cycle back to for years, sometimes even decades. But coming back isn't the same as choosing someone.

For many, it's a way to regulate loneliness, familiarity, or emotional discomfort, not evidence that they're ready for a healthy, committed relationship.

This is why so many people stay stuck hoping that this time will be different.

Unless the underlying attachment wounds are addressed, the cycle usually repeats.

The relationship doesn't end when they leave.

It ends when you stop reopening the door.

❤️ Save this if you've been caught in the on-again, off-again cycle.

💔 Everyone wants their avoidant back…
but no one talks about what it did to your mental health

1. Ambiguous Loss
They’re gone… but still alive
Your brain can’t process it

2. Overthinking
Your mind keeps searching
Trying to make sense of it

3. Intrusive Thoughts
Memories hit out of nowhere
Your brain keeps replaying it

4. Sleep Disruption
Your brain works through it at night
No closure = no rest

5. Nervous System Stress
Anxiety
Feeling on edge
Emotional overwhelm

6. Loss of Self-Trust
You start questioning yourself
“Was it me?”

7. Betrayal Trauma
Being replaced feels like trauma
Your brain is trying to protect you.

You’re not just missing them. Your brain is trying to recover. 💔 by @attachment_shift

Will your avoidant ex come back during no contact, and what would actually change if they did?

After an avoidant breakup, a text, a story view, or an “I miss you” can feel like the answer you’ve been waiting for. But what happens AFTER you respond?

Are they willing to talk about what happened? Take responsibility? Show up consistently when you have needs, too?

If they reach out, get your attention, and disappear again, pay attention to that pattern. You don’t have to figure out exactly what they’re feeling to recognize what this is costing you.

Avoidants regulate through control. Your consistency in the cycle is the cycle. And the second that changes — so does everything else.

But walking away as a tactic keeps you emotionally hostage to their response.

Walking away because you're done — that's where your healing actually starts.

🤍 Fearful avoidants may blindside you with a particularly cruel, cold behavior pattern.

When a fearful avoidant truly starts to care for someone, they don't register this as love and joy. They register it as a threat. "I am vulnerable, and this will destroy me."

This is when the fearful avoidant becomes hypervigilant.

They scan for signs of leaving, disappointment, or changes in tone. And their brain predicts the worst outcome. This is not a thought; this is a certainty in the body.

This is called preemptive rejection .

Before they can be abandoned, they might say something mean to push you away. Tell you they need space. Ghost you. Suddenly withdraw and disappear, end the relationship abruptly, create conflict, escalate it, and use that as an excuse to leave....

💔 Silent treatment in an avoidant relationship: when did you become afraid to say something hurt you?

You rehearse the conversation. Pick the right time. Make your message shorter, softer, easier to hear. You’re already preparing for them to pull away before you’ve even said what you need.

And then you decide, “Never mind. Things have been good. I don’t want to ruin it.”

But you’re still hurt.

Maybe you recognize this pattern: you bring up a problem, they shut you out, you chase a conversation, and eventually you apologize just to get them talking again. When the affection returns, you leave the issue alone.

Ask yourself: what actually got resolved?

Understanding avoidant attachment doesn’t mean you have to accept stonewalling, emotional withdrawal, or a relationship where your needs are only welcome when they’re convenient.

They’re allowed to need a break. You’re allowed to expect them to communicate that and return to the conversation.

You shouldn’t have to keep pretending you’re okay to stay connected.

Save this for the next time you’re about to take back something you meant. Follow @attachment_shift for The Avoidant Relationship Autopsy™. To work on expressing your needs and holding your boundaries, book a call through the link in my bio. by @attachment_shift
