Our hearts are full. Thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s opening reception at Art Through The Glass. Whether you’re one of our artists, a returning supporter, or visited us for the first time, your presence helped make the evening truly special.

Art Through The Glass has always been about bringing people together through creativity, and seeing so many conversations, connections, and smiles reminded us why we do this.

The exhibition is on view from July 18 through late September, so there’s still plenty of time to visit, discover these incredible artists, and bring your friends and family.

This exhibition also marks an exciting new chapter for Art Through The Glass. We’re reimagining how we present exhibitions, creating new experiences for our visitors, and introducing fresh ideas that will continue to make this space a place where art and community thrive. This is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to share what’s ahead. #ChulaVistaArtsDistrict #ChulaVistaArts #ThisIsWhoWeAre #ArtThroughTheGlass

Thank you for believing in our mission and for growing with us. taken in Chula Vista Center by @attgsd

Meet artist Paul Jimenez

For Paul Jimenez, art is about honoring the people and stories that define a community. A Chula Vista-based muralist and founder of Ground Floor Murals, Paul is known for creating large-scale realistic murals that celebrate local history, culture, and the individuals who inspire us.

The piece featured in This Is Who We Are is an oil pastel on wood panel created in partnership with AleSmith for their 2023 Tony Gwynn Day Can release, commemorating Tony Gwynn’s 2,000th and 3,000th career hits. For Paul, Tony represents the heart of San Diego, making this work both a tribute to a hometown legend and a reflection of the values that make this community special.

Whether painting on the side of a building or on a wood panel, Paul’s work is rooted in the belief that public art can preserve stories, celebrate local identity, and bring people together.

Meet artist Shane Murphy

For Shane Murphy, every discarded page, photograph, and fragment holds the potential for a new story. As an analog and digital collage artist, he transforms vintage ephemera into bold, layered compositions that blend nostalgia, imagination, and music into something entirely his own.

Drawing from vintage magazines like National Geographic, Playboy, Hot Rod, and countless other found materials, Shane creates collages that celebrate the beauty of reimagining the familiar. Music also plays a major role in his creative process, influencing the rhythm, energy, and emotion behind each piece.

Always eager to explore new techniques, Shane continues to push his work in new directions, recently experimenting with wheat paste on wood as another way to bring his collages to life. For him, creating is simply about the joy of making something new and sharing it with others.

Meet artist Gustavo Hurtado

For Gustavo, creating art isn’t just a profession, it’s a way of life. A Chula Vista native, Gustavo spent more than two decades expressing himself through graffiti before expanding his creative journey into tattooing and, more recently, large-scale murals.

Working with everything from pen and pencil to spray paint, Gustavo finds inspiration in life itself. Every surface becomes an opportunity to tell a story, transform a space, or leave a lasting impression on the people who experience his work.

His artistic path has continually evolved, but one thing has remained constant: a passion for creating. Whether it’s on a wall, a canvas, or skin, Gustavo’s work reflects a lifelong commitment to his craft and the belief that art has the power to connect communities and inspire others.

Meet the Artist Victor Rodriguez

Victor Rodriguez is a Chula Vista based artist and muralist working across spray paint, oil sticks, and acrylics. His practice uses bold, graphic imagery to explore themes of endurance and transformation.

His current body of work is deeply personal, an investigation into his journey with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Through vibrant, large-scale murals and studio pieces, Victor translates the internal experience of chronic illness into a visual dialogue about resilience, physical challenge, and the strength of the human spirit.

Come experience his work in person.

Meet artist David Leeland Bain

Being an artist is often seen as a dream, but behind every finished piece is a reality filled with uncertainty, pressure, and perseverance. In his self-portrait, Life as an Artist, David Leeland Bain offers a thoughtful and slightly sarcastic look at the emotional weight of making a living through creativity.

Drawing from both his Mexican and white heritage, David incorporates Southwestern cowboy imagery, a visual language that has become central to his recent work. The figure reflects not only how he sees himself, but also how he feels he is perceived by others. Amid the tension, a single flower tucked into his pocket serves as a reminder that joy, humor, and whimsy can still exist, even in the most challenging moments.

Through bold color and symbolism, David transforms a deeply personal experience into a portrait that speaks to resilience, identity, and the realities of pursuing a creative life.
