✔ Properly fitted life vest
Not decorative. Functional. Correct buoyancy rating and neoprene thickness appropriate to the dog’s weight and size. Secure handle. Bright visibility.

Dogs dehydrate faster than we think. Fresh water access at all times. No saltwater ingestion.

✔ Shade & thermal management
Decks get hot. Cockpits trap heat. Provide shaded areas and airflow. Groom appropriately for climate.

✔ Paws & traction
Trimmed nails reduce slipping. Clean paws prevent debris damage to decks. Consider marine booties for non-skid protection and stability underway.

– Secure sharp objects
– Stow loose gear
– Maintain clean, dry walking surfaces
– Eliminate trip hazards

Even the Boat Boss has to earn her Gold Card!

I’m starting my journey to earn Florida’s Enhanced Recreational Boating Safety Certificate, or as we’ve nicknamed it, the Gold Card.

To earn it, I’ll complete two steps:

✅ A Florida-approved boating safety course
✅ Complete a verified on-water boating skills course

Knowing boating is one thing. Continuing to build your skills is another.

Over the next few videos, I’m taking you along with me as I complete both requirements and earn my Gold Card.
