I'm starting some listening sessions in my little studio in Milan, the series is called Non-Environment.

The space can only accommodate up to 10 people plus myself. The room is soundproofed, so you can play music very loudly or very quietly.

The acoustics are inspired by the Non-Environment, a classic control room design concept, where you basically kill the room's own reverberation and resonance as much as possible.

When I first read about the Non-Environmental approach, I remember thinking that it seemed like the complete opposite of what I was into, since my artistic practice revolves around the ecological relationship between sound, space, and the body. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try by building my own DIY version of it, as a kind of intellectual challenge to engage with something completely foreign to me.

The result in terms of sound was quite a surprise, because with the increased level of accuracy I didn't get the expected sense of immersion in the sound, on the contrary, I could hear many small details in the reproduced music that made me feel as if the sound was right in front of me, somewhat removed from me.

However, once I got used to this very analytical way of experiencing audio (this is not the true or best way to listen to recordings, it is just one way), I began to appreciate the feeling of slight dizziness that comes from being presented with an almost exaggerated amount of sonic information (sometimes too much to process) and decided that it might be fun to share the experience with friends and colleagues or curious listeners.

Aural Tools will soon also become a book, expanding the project through original essays, drawings and exercises, alongside a series of presentations of the objects and the book across Europe and the US.

This recognition would not have been possible without Fede and Fra from @nubprojectspace, who not only had the idea of applying, but also put an enormous amount of work into making the application happen, together with @paologabriotti and @viaindustriae, and without all the artists and friends with whom we’ve been developing the objects over the years, including @ryokoakama, @matijaschel, @enricomalatesta, @seijimorimoto, @felicitymangan, @dafsandoval79, @fabioperletta, @luigi_turra and @futura___research.

A special thank you also to everyone who supported the application with letters of invitation to present Aural Tools at their institutions: @ninaeidsheim, @peerlabucla and @uclaalpert; @riccardo_giacconi and @tuftsuniversity; @mactra and @phantompowerpodcast; @jay_afrisando and the University of California, Santa Cruz; @macromuseoroma; @caterinamolteni and @mambobologna; @elena_biserna and @labgamerz; @jjjulia_eckhardt and @q_o2werkplaats; @grrrr_org and @elakwien.

Torto Editions was founded in 2019 by Tommaso Rolando, in collaboration with visual artist Paolo Bonfiglio and violist Jean René. The label has now released more than 30 works on different formats, from cassette to vinyl, including many of Tommaso’s collaborations as well as albums by other artists.

The label’s focus starts from acoustic sound and improvisation, embracing different forms and moving across genres. Its catalogue has developed through the contribution of the artists involved, maintaining a vision that is both precise and heterogeneous.

Torto Editions has released works ranging from group improvisations directed by the late Barre Phillips to Širom, as well as encounters with Andy Moor, Domiziano Maselli and Davide Cedolin, and albums by Nicolas Remondino, Duchamp and She’s Analog.

🦋 The Dance of Attention, a cura di Attila Faravelli, sound artist.

Listening session of tksm 01 \ tksm 02 by Tokesmo.
Andrea will be with us in person to talk about the project.
We will listen to the two EPs in their entirety.

Wednesday, June 3, 2026

Tokesmo is the latest solo project of Andrea B. He started playing bass in 1994 in Lodi, Italy, and in 2004 co-founded Morkobot, an instrumental trio built on two basses and drums. Since 1996 he has also explored electronic instruments and recording techniques, releasing various material as Otrom and Garaliya, among other projects.

Tokesmo works with acoustic and electronic sound sources, combining field recordings, percussive elements, and synthesized tones to create immersive, multidimensional soundscapes. Each release investigates a specific sonic matter, inviting listeners to engage with different aspects of the sound experience and giving each recording a distinct identity within the larger vision.

Eight tksm EPs, released as four paired sets, are planned over the coming years.

Some time ago Andrea contacted me on IG to propose a listening session of his work in the studio. He sent me his EPs, I listened to them, and it was a surprise: they are beautiful, unknown works. I then found out that two well-known mastering engineers in the field of experimental music, independently from one another, had told him that his music was very good and that it deserved to find a place. Andrea, however, is hardline and pure :) and decided to self-release these EPs, which are really worth listening to.

Book your place!

Two listening sessions, two mixes, each investigating and interacting with the work of an underground twentieth-century composer.

Classical Hooligans is a project founded in 2017 with the aim of bringing classical, contemporary and avant-garde music back to audiences without an academic background, through live reinterpretations of twentieth-century works, sharp DJ sets, radio programs and events. From Bach’s harpsichord to Stockhausen’s spatial orbits, from Eliane Radigue’s drones to Debussy’s waves, Classical Hooligans opens paths into musical worlds too quickly forgotten.
Because everyone likes classical music, only nobody knows it.

Sailing Through Silence, released on May 22, 2025 by ROHS!, is an audiovisual project telling the story of Michele Di Martino’s father’s research experience during the 1998 Italiantartide expedition, through video and photographic material recorded during the journey. The work combines electronic music, field recordings and immersive imagery, opening a space for memory, affection, environmental awareness and reflection on climate change.

Michele Di Martino is a composer whose practice explores ambient, drone and minimalism through experimentation and interdisciplinary research. A recurring element in his work is the intimate connection between sound and personal memory, often using family histories, spoken fragments and lived experience as compositional material.

Released on March 27, 2026 by @ooh_sounds , Hìeratico is a night-tuned, percussion-led album where prepared drums are accompanied by flickers of spoken word, acoustic instruments and muted electronics.

The title translates to “hieratic”, a term that for Remondino carries a black and gold quality, rich in dualities and complex connotations. The music moves between sparkling light and coloured darkness, creating a crepuscular soundworld of resonances, shadows and glows. Inspired by natural substances and phenomena, stone, wood, wind, earth, metal, grass, rain, clouds and bark, Remondino treats drums as lucid textural instruments as much as rhythmic timekeepers.

Nicolas Remondino is an Italian percussionist interested in sound, nature and poetry. His work rejects fixed forms and categories, exploring the drum as a resonant material in its own right. He has performed and recorded with musicians and sound artists including Massimo Silverio, Pierre Bastien, Limpe Fuchs, Giuseppe Ielasi, Michel Doneda and Marco Baldini.
