My independence is well fought for. People often want to tell one another how to live interpersonally and within more expansive restraints such as How To Be An American—or just a human.

Never deceive ourselves as people and we’ll be fine.

We can’t be fully human til we’re honest with ourselves, and courage takes time.

There are a million ways to mother. Today I am mothering myself this weekend by feeding my memories of being nourished by the seas, oceans, rivers, and waterfalls in the world 👣 🐚 🏝️

My Dad was the stay-at-home parent after his years of traditional business dealings from radio station owning to working with Shorty Powers at NASA, fighting Hitler, and working Wall Street before that.

It is a non-traditional desire to honor my father on Mother’s Day, but since I sent some gifts to Mom recently already, and posted about her twice this year already! I can afford to interpret the day as it is. A reminder of being held and let in—even when the day was taxing and batteries were low.

But also to the amazingness of my mom from a distance, her conviction to carry herself forward even on the most difficult of days, her leadership in the workplace and therefore in the world-at-large. Her sticktoitiveness to demand of herself to provide for a large family, and then when Dad eventually passed her courage to give up norms to color outside the lines by working at the no-frills Blood Bank encouraging people to donate!

Women are designed *for so much* and so much is unknown about what we go through on the daily. @womanupdoc
