New construction gives you a blank slate — which is exciting until every landscaping decision starts competing for space.

Before filling beds or committing to permanent features, think about the trees.

Where do you eventually want shade?
What view needs screening?
What areas need structure?
How large can the tree become without fighting the house, fence or future plans?

Mature trees shape the rest of a landscape. Plan the big decisions first.

New home? Send us the blank yard. DM “YARD” and tell us what you want it to become.

This is why we don’t choose trees for one perfect weather day.

Central Texas properties can move from prolonged heat and dry soil into periods of heavy rain.

The goal isn’t to predict exactly what every season will do. It’s to make better long-term decisions: appropriate species, good placement, proper planting, sensible watering and enough space for the tree to mature.

Plant for Central Texas — not for this week’s forecast.

Not sure what belongs on your property? DM “YARD.”

This may sound strange coming from a company that sells tree nutrition, but it matters: not every stressed tree needs fertilizer.

Texas A&M Forest Service says most landscape trees do not automatically need fertilizer and recommends paying attention first to watering, mulch and site conditions; when nutrient deficiency is suspected, soil testing can help determine whether fertilizer is needed.

Don’t throw products at a tree simply because the leaves look unhappy. Find the reason first. Nutrition belongs in the conversation when it actually belongs in the solution.

Not sure what your tree needs? DM “TREE CHECK” before guessing.

Privacy starts with the view you’re trying to change.

Not with a generic list of “Top 5 Privacy Trees.”

Is the problem a second-story window?
A road?
A pool?
A neighboring patio?

Then our crew look at space, sunlight, mature width, access and how quickly you want screening.

The tree that works beautifully on a large property might make no sense in a narrow side yard.

The best privacy tree isn’t one species. It’s the tree that fits your property and your goal.

Send us your fence line. DM “PRIVACY.”

Because trees aren’t only for dry weather.

NOAA currently expects this El Niño to strengthen significantly, and its seasonal outlook favors wetter-than-normal conditions across parts of the southern and central U.S. That does not mean Austin is guaranteed constant rain or flooding.

Seasonal outlooks change probabilities — they don’t promise individual weather events.

What it reminds us is that Central Texas landscapes deal with changing extremes.

Trees provide shade, and the City of Austin specifically recognizes urban trees for helping mitigate heat, stormwater runoff and soil erosion.

The goal isn’t to plant because of El Niño.

The goal is to build a yard that works through more than one kind of Texas weather.

What does your property need most: SHADE, PRIVACY or a better long-term tree plan? Comment or DM us.

The finished photo is the easy part.

Before this happens, somebody has to figure out what the homeowner actually wants, what fits the property, where the trees should go, what access the crew has and how those trees will work when they’re larger.

Then the trees arrive.
Then the crew handles the heavy work.
Then an exposed fence line starts feeling like part of a backyard again.

ATX Trees is built around making that process simpler: farm-direct trees, selection help, delivery and professional planting.

Still standing isn’t the same thing as thriving.

After a long Texas summer, pay attention to what changed. Is the canopy noticeably thinner?

Did leaf size or color change?

Is there dieback? Has the soil stayed extremely dry — or suddenly stayed wet after recent rain?

The answer isn’t automatically fertilizer. Sometimes the most important factors are water, mulch, soil conditions or identifying the actual source of stress.

Before treating the tree, understand what the tree is telling you.

Spring gets all the attention, but Central Texas has a different planting rhythm.

The City of Austin identifies roughly October through March as tree-planting season and specifically points to fall as an excellent time to plant.

Cooler conditions give new trees an opportunity to begin establishing before hot, dry weather returns.

That doesn’t mean plant anything anywhere. Species, soil, drainage, mature size and placement still matter.

But if privacy, shade or a more finished yard has been sitting on your someday list, fall is when the conversation becomes timely.

Want to see what could work on your property? DM “YARD” and send us a photo.

Sunny. Open. Right where you wanted the tree.

Perfect, right? Maybe not.

One of the easiest ways to learn about a planting site is to watch it after meaningful rain.

If water sits there for a long time, don’t ignore it just because the location looks great when the yard is dry.

Texas A&M Forest Service recommends evaluating drainage before planting because prolonged saturation can harm roots.

A beautiful tree in the wrong location is still the wrong tree.

Thinking about planting in a low spot? Send us the location before you buy. DM “YARD.”

More rain can be welcome after a Texas summer.

But it doesn’t mean every tree automatically has everything it needs.

What matters is what happens after water hits the ground.

Does it soak in? Run away? Sit around the root zone?

Newly planted trees still need monitoring, and poor drainage can create its own problems.

That’s why tree care isn’t simply “water more” or “water less.”

It starts with understanding the property.

And if you’re planning to plant this fall, watching your yard after a big rain can tell you a lot about where a tree should — or shouldn’t — go.

Central Texas is heading into a stretch of heavy-rain potential. Before the rain settles in, take ten minutes and walk your property.

Where does water normally collect?

Are recently planted trees sitting in low spots?

Are there damaged limbs you’ve been ignoring?

Is mulch piled against a trunk?

Then walk the property again after the rain and see what changed.

This isn’t about panicking over a forecast. It’s about learning how water actually moves through your yard.

That matters when caring for existing trees — and when deciding where the next one should go.

Weather changes. Your property tells you what to do next.

Save this. After the rain, see something that concerns you? DM “TREE CHECK” with a photo.
