I Keep Eating Your Distance Away is a writers’ group, with a semi-open structure that has been developed during weekly meetings.

The public readings on 13th of October contain texts that emerged through the shared writing and cross-pollination over the last two years. Some publications will be available on site.

Readings by Birds Without Gender, lean rüegg, Lucie Schroeder, maru mushtrieva, Nina Pertsov. We ask for a supporting donation of €5. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

We begin at 19:00 and finish around 22:00. There will be a bowl of soup.

In the workshop on 15th of October, the group will share their practice of creating a safer space to read and write together, by witnessing each other and growing a space for creative co-regulation. Bring your lunch with you.

Instead of the male voyeur watching the lesbians, the lesbians are watching you. Instead of the vampire stalking the human, the human is stalking the vampire.

The first session took place 🩸
Now we come for the second.
While we find a way to make these encounters more regular, please feel invited through the unevenness.

We sit together, we watch a film. At the end we stay, we linger, we discuss.

The film is a secret, like so many others to be revealed in due time.

SUNDAY STUDY : ‘The End’ seminar by Parapraxis and The Psychosocial Foundation

Every Sunday starting September 20th, we will gather for another online seminar hosted by Parapraxis and the Psychosocial Foundation, focusing on ‘The End’.

We plan to embrace the later time slot through candles, tea and sweet things - a sleepy attitude is to be expected and welcome!

Psychoanalysis begins with a wish for the end. The remission of pain, the relief of the symptom. Like drawing the death card repeatedly, we wish to traverse the symptom and move on. So says the abolitionist, too: end to transform. The end guarantees neither defeat nor triumph, though both are synonyms. At first, the end seems to spell finitude, a terminal cloaked in bad affect. But the end is only bad if things were mostly good. In psychoanalysis and left politics, the end is an object of desire—the end of struggle, suffering, oppression. Crucial to the way an end feels is the power one has in willing it. Psychoanalysis is clear on this issue: termination is or can be enacted prematurely but it is, crucially, the patient’s choice. At a moment when people are engineering the conditions of their own obsolescence under the aegis of high but diminishing wages, the end has become less elective, more inevitable. In other ways, the end doesn’t come soon enough—late capitalism and late liberalism lumber on without nearing abolition. How do we decide on the ends we want while struggling to push against the foreclosures and limits that keep us unfree?

Speakers include Samiha Khalil, Patrice Douglass, Brianna Suslovic, Amy De’Ath, Axelle Karera, and others.

We’ll share the seminar subscription collectively by asking you to contribute 10€ (cash or PayPal) for the whole series from the point you join. “a journey to an enchanted Pacific island in the Bay of Arauco (Chile) to join the local resistance against exploitation of rare earth materials”

A group of artists and creatives - a Chilean collective Grupo de Búsqueda from Concepción - travels to Isla Santa María to shoot a short film about the islanders’ struggle against the extraction of rare earth minerals. In this film, a woman travels to an island off the Chilean coast to join the local resistance against speculators’ exploitation.

A visionary fiction that, only one year later, would become reality when the inhabitants of Isla Santa María successfully organized protests and a general strike against the mining of rare earth minerals.

The production and its making become the material for Graw Böckler’s film that documents this journey to an enchanted Pacific island in the Bay of Arauco (Chile). Graw Böckler @grawboeckler play with experimental documentary format, turning upside down the hierarchies between “making of” and fiction.

Bio:

Ursula Böckler (*1965) and Georg Graw (*1966) have been working together as the artist duo Graw Böckler since 1997, primarily in the fields of video and photography. Since 2009, they have been based in Berlin. In addition to their artistic practice, Graw Böckler curate exhibitions and screenings. Since 2018, they have run the project space Graw Böckler Garage. Summer evening, light breeze and the first vampire-lesbian-vampire film and discussion at au jus

The film is a secret, like so many others to be revealed in due time.

Jump-cut thru cinema genres & history; the series will trace the multiple meanings of a horror trope that is both an articulation of men’s fears towards women’s sexuality as it is a campy delight for dykes.

We will explore the strange pleasure of revenge horror and gender subversion, discuss Marxist camp aesthetics of countesses with long bloodlines that sucks dry the servant girl, the death drive and the plus-de-jouir of the vampire mouth.

Strangeness — a workshop by Bahaar Ahsan

Saturday, July 18th｜11h - 14h

This workshop takes its title from an essay by the Language poet Lyn Hejinian, in which she insists on the anti-fetish function of metonymy: where metaphor obscures actual experience, metonym lays bare not only the phenomenal world but also the cognitive and social relations which allow for its apprehension.

In this workshop, we will close read Hejinian’s essay together and consider its critiques and counterarguments, thinking together about metonym and metaphor as ordering and disordering devices in poetry. We will consider poetry as a space where perception is laid bare, and as a space where concepts are created. We may bring in Roman Jakobson, Fredric Jameson, and others. We will read some contemporary poetry (likely: Jean Day, Simone White, Nora Fulton, Danny Hayward) and will consider how these works orient themselves to these questions. We will also write some poems of our own—mobilizing the concepts in the essay toward our own metonymic, poetic ends.

Duration: 3 hours
