Eleven years in, I find myself impressed with the courage of my younger self.

In my twenties, in Dallas. I started my design firm, Aubrey O’Brien, Inc. At the time, I was working for a company full-time as a designer while spending my nights and weekends apprenticing with woodworkers and creating custom furniture and metalwork. Before long, people began approaching me to design bespoke pieces for their homes and offices.

Those early experiences gave me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship that continues to shape my work today. Understanding how something is constructed, fabricated, and finished remains invaluable to the thoughtful execution of every custom detail.

When I started the company, I also became a college interior design professor and ended up also consulting for my previous employer. I worked around the clock, continued welding and making art, and eventually produced my own solo exhibition, which was a sold out show!

There were early clients and collaborators, who believed in me and my zeal for interior design before I had an extensive portfolio and I’m so grateful for them.

From Dallas, to New York, and now Sarasota, this journey has been one of a constant evolution.

Today, my work spans luxury residential, vacation homes, hospitality, workplace interiors, and strategic design consulting for clients I find highly admirable and impressive. I’ve been fortunate to learn from extraordinary mentors and work alongside remarkable craftspeople, contractors, and creative minds who have continually expanded how I think about design and its role in people’s personal lives and businesses.

I’m proud of the business I’ve built, grateful for the people who believed in me along the way, and deeply curious and optimistic about what’s on the horizon.

There is so much more I want to do and create.

Cheers to beginning this career as a design assistant at the age of 16 to now celebrating eleven years of business ownership and a lifetime of passion, hard work, learning, evolving, and having the continued courage to pursue my passion, to listen to my intuition and trust my design vision. 🥂🤍✨ 11yr anniversary of business ownership. Dream client. He moved from Austin, and was starting a new life chapter in Sarasota. He travels the world for work and wanted to come home to a space that felt like it could be in NYC or LA. We met in NYC for the most amazing showroom visit experience. Here, I was able to educate him on the quality of materials, craftsmanship, and why customizing the pieces to fit the scale of his condo would be so important in making the space feel elevated. I also took the opportunity to really get to know him, his life story, and observe what he emotionally connected with. Herringbone floors laid the groundwork from a memory of an apartment in Paris. We scaled them up and selected a warm finish from Duchateau for a more contemporary look and feel. We layered in Moroccan rugs from Beni rugs, a place where my client knows well and has spent a lot of time. These pieces felt exciting and comforting. My client prefers reading over TV, therefore I proposed two iconic sofa’s from Stephen Kenn be the wow moment when you step foot off the elevator. The strapping details on this sofa are so masculine and special, and since there’s not a showroom in LA, we got to have a cool moment of discovery in the back of a men’s boutique in SoHo that had a dim lit hang space with a few of the pieces, it was like a design showroom speakeasy, lol, just another example of how I go above and beyond for my clients and give them peace of mind and an amazing client experience throughout the process. The elevated lighting throughout are all focal points and delineate each space beautifully. They also set the tone and the mood from day to night, I hope you enjoy this golden hour peak into all the custom details. My wood worker, Stephen, from NYC, drove the custom office and bed down and installed. Really special art pieces are selected from Women who I greatly admire from all chapters of my life. Samantha McCurdy serves as a talking piece under the trapeze light in the dining room, Jami Goldman’s piece has depth and an ethereal vibe in the office, setting the tone as a reading space and zoom background, and Pao’s hanging sculptures are rich in texture and story telling.
