I’m not recommending following a tall blonde wizard into the woods but he may lead you to delicious mushrooms and cook you the best thing you ever ate. But I’m also not not 🪢🪢 recommending it. it worked for me 💓🤷🏼‍♀️ by @aubreypond

I went to my first town council meeting today…

As much as I love the idea of making a difference in this world and as much as I love the vision I hold in my heart of what this place could one day become.. I’d be lying if I told you I was anything other than incredibly cynical about the people in it.

I ran into Jesse a little over a year ago and he told me the vision he had for this place, Payson, our home town. It was really inspiring to see someone care so much, and to not just care, but be actively doing something about it.

Jesse and I had so much in common, it was almost eerie. Our love for art, nature, music, festivals, philosophy, God… not to mention our vision for life was basically identical. He had every complimentary trait I had asked God for in a partner, and it seemed like we had been living parallel lives - him in Colorado and me in California - before feeling bizarrely pulled to move back to Payson.

Jesse told me about the nonprofit he started, Keep Payson Clean, and what it meant to him. Every week he would bring people out with purple bags to pick up trash in the parks and all around our town.

“But it’s so much bigger than that,” he would tell me. Picking up trash is just where we start.

For a year, Jesse would invite me out with him and for a year I would have every excuse to miss it. But every week, I would see his purple trash bags. I’d see them on the side of the road. I’d see them at the river on the way home to my house. I’d see him with a large group and I’d see him by himself picking up trash in the rain. (Dancing ridiculously, I might add, with a purple bag in hand.)

I could not go anywhere without seeing those purple trash bags, reminding me how I could be showing up in the world.

Finally, about 2 months ago, I was so fed up with the state of the world, and all the horrible news I was hearing, I started getting serious about asking God how we fix this. The evil I was witnessing on my phone and in the news was so profound, I could barely eat or sleep at night.

Time capsule from San Diego, Oct 2024 🖤
It took me an embarrassingly long time to finally tackle the project of getting this footage off / converted from my vintage camcorder…but boy was it worth the trouble!
Such a magical night at the Estancia La Jolla Halloween Ball — the theme was “Old Hollywood, Silver Screen Soirée” & we filmed a bit at the Del beforehand too✨ This city has my heart🥰 taken in San Diego, California by @aubreypond
