The Auburn Alumni Association has named four College of Education alumni to its Young Alumni Council. Alicia Clark ’09, Sophia Davila ‘24, ’25, Churmell Mitchell ’16 and Betty Patton ’11, ‘12, ‘17 join 26 other individuals under the age of 40 representing six schools and colleges at Auburn University.The Young Alumni Council takes on meaningful projects and initiatives, spearheads professional development opportunities and events, and aims to engage and connect young alumni back to Auburn University. The Sensorimotor and Rehabilitation (SMART) Neuroscience Lab in the College of Education’s School of Kinesiology studies the neuroscience of human movement using virtual and augmented reality simulations. And now, a new member of the lab has joined the team to help understand things like balance and walking: Circuit, the robotic “dog” who comes complete with artificial intelligence built in. What do a biomechanist and a pageant queen have in common? More than you might think. Eva Litkenhous, a freshman at Lee-Scott Academy, is Miss Autauga County Fair’s Teen and an outspoken supporter of Parkinson’s disease research, while Jaimie Roper is an associate professor in the School of Kinesiology of Auburn’s College of Education and director of the Locomotor and Movement Control Lab. The unlikely duo bonded over their mutual passion for helping individuals with Parkinson’s disease find creative ways to age better.
