I’m honoured to be nominated for this year’s Capital music awards. I worked with over 70 bands and artists last year, and this award nom is really an acknowledgment of all of their hard work. Recording talented musicians is easy! The passion and dedicated effort that independent musicians bring to the studio is what pushes me to show up every day. I am also inspired by the groundhog that is currently digging a complex set of tunnels in the lawn outside the studio. I’m putting the absolute final touches on the new @doubleexperience single! We need some keyboards slides coming into the chorus. Mics all set for 10 string players tomorrow morning! @royerlabs 122vs and the DPA pair courtesy of @sicardstudios . Thanks a million!!! We have 3 more R 121s, SF24 stereo ribbon, and I love the way the @uaudio Sphere mics sound on strings. It’s like having another pair of ribbons, OR another pair of VM1s… we can decide later. Everyone’s favourite part of making a record is editing!! Here’s a quick rundown of the mics we had set up for a 10 person choir. We had great isolation AND a great room sound, so we have lots of mix options. I’m recording kazoo overdubs this morning. I think the stereo pair of @neumann.berlin U87s and a mono @microtechgefell UM70 should cover it! Since they are set up, I’ll probably use them for @jamesjmcgowan choir recording later today. taken in Audio Valley Recording Studios by @audiovalley

This is an old trick if you’re looking for a more “vintage” sounding acoustic guitar sound when using a mic like a @neumann.berlin U87. So, this tiny little screen is currently changing my life. However, I can’t find a good place to put it on the desktop! All of the stands cost more than the screen! This is one of those $130 mobile touch screens, and with just a little tweaking it’s working quite well. It’s also nice to be able to have metering right in front on a smaller screen so I can double check that I am always mixing at -3lufs. taken in Audio Valley Recording Studios by @audiovalley
