Iโ€™m grateful for being able to share, work with fellow artists and witness creative ideas take shape in the classroom.

Thank you, selection committee, Center for Craft, the Windgate Foundation & the Maxwell | Hanrahan Foundations for this generous award.

Two m๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ•n offerings to The Lunar Project curated by Adam Chau (@adamcharleschau) at Main Line Art Center (@mainlineartcenter) ๐Ÿงงโœจ

A traditional แ„ƒแ…กแ†ฏแ„’แ…กแ†ผแ„‹แ…กแ„…แ…ต (moon jar) smooths away the seam where two halves meet. By misaligning the hemispheres, it reveal the vesselโ€™s interior with family photographs - sending a tribute to the two tigers who raised me. The tiger plays both protagonist and antagonist in Korean folklore and in Asian-American upbringing, it symbolizes tough discipline and expectation through the nuances of โ€œtiger parentsโ€. The act of making became a contemplative ground for understanding my two tigers ... thinking through their expression of love shaped by both protection and pressure, reflecting on its layered complexities.

We are excited to introduce, Audrey An (@audrey.an), our new Assistant Professor of Ceramics! ๐Ÿค

Audrey joins us from Philly and has been enjoying the beautiful landscape of the region while getting to know students at ETSU and artists throughout Southern Appalachia.

She is excited to join a ceramics program with a strong craft tradition and looks forward to bringing her interdisciplinary approach to teaching. She has been deeply inspired by the creativity, curiosity, and energy students bring to the studio! ๐Ÿ’ซ

ใ€ฐ๏ธใ€ฐ๏ธใ€ฐ๏ธ

Audrey Anโ€™s creative research explores the application of digital technologies in ceramics through the lens of convergenceโ€”cultural, technological, and interdisciplinary. Her work examines notions of home, the emotional weight of domestic space, and the materiality of memory through sculptural furniture, 3D-printed clay, and hybrid digital-analog processes.

An holds an MFA from Penn State University, a BFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and completed post-baccalaureate studies at Colorado State University. She was the 2022โ€“24 Artist-in-Residence at the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard and has participated in short-term residencies at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts and Alfred University. Her work has been exhibited at Gallery 224 at Harvard, the Palmer Museum of Art and the Blaffer Art Museum, among others.

An has recently taught at the Tyler School of Art + Architecture, Massachusetts College of Art & Design, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and others. Before joining ETSU, she served as Prototyping & Digital Fabrication Studio Manager and Teaching Artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, where she established a clay-centered digital fabrication studio and developed community-driven educational programming that expanded access to emerging technologies beyond traditional academic spaces.

Thank you, Alfred Ceramics (@alfredceramics), for hosting 3D Printing: From Plastic to Clay! โœจ

Our workshop was busy-busy ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ชโœจWe explored 3D modeling, scanning, re-imagining found files, plastic printing for mold-making, slip casting, custom tool-making, and direct clay printing... all in 2๏ธโƒฃ weeks! Can't believe how much we created in such short time!

Thank you everyone for bringing so much curiosity, kindness, laughter, and creative energy to the studio ๐Ÿ’› It was extra special to return to Alfred and meet amazing creatives like you all! Iโ€™m leaving extremely tired (physically ๐Ÿ˜†) but creatively so energized as I get ready to move.

And of course, a HUGE shout-out to Nathan (@neufelddesign) for being the BEST TA! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ”ฅ His generosity, kindness, and wealth of knowledge made the workshop such a joy!!!!

Honored to be back at Penn State with my work included in ๐ƒ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐€๐ฆ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ง ๐…๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ: ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐ŸŽ at the Palmer Museum of Art (@palmermuseumofart). The exhibition brings together 50 artists to reflect on the past, present, and future of America as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary. โœจ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโœจ

๐ŸŒ• ๐‘ด๐’†๐’Ž๐’๐’“๐’š ๐‘ด๐’๐’๐’ ๐ŸŒ• reimagines the traditional moon jar by exposing rather than smoothing over the seam. The Declaration of Independence and its famous preamble, proclaimed on July 4, 1776, established the aspirational tenets of our republic as the founders of the country looked to the future. In the spirit of democracy, we invited artists to submit works that address the following forward-looking themes: Activating Change, Bridging the Divide, Pursuit of Happiness, and A More Perfect Union.

Some of you already know... but Iโ€˜m thrilled to share that I will be joining East Tennessee State University (@etsu) as Assistant Professor of Ceramics this Fall!

Philly has been a wonderful home for the past 1.5 years. I got to reconnect with old friends, make amazing new ones and develop new Digital Fabrication Studio programming at The Clay Studio (@theclaystudiophl). I am grateful for the opportunity and proud of what I have built here & leaving behind. I learned a lot from this role and fellow artists I worked closely with means so much to me (esp Digital Clay class!!! ๐Ÿฅบ). I will miss you all so much! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’•

Moving forward with this new position has made me deeply reflect on the creative mentorship, generosity and support Iโ€™ve received over 10+ years from incredible mentors & friends (iykyk โœจ๐Ÿ’—โœจ). Iโ€™m looking forward to working with collegues and students at ETSU Art & Design (@etsuartanddesign); honoring its traditions with bringing new energy to the ceramics program with Chance (@chancetaylorceramics)! โœจ

Hit Ben & I up when you are near by Johnson City & Asheville or hope to say hello whenever we are back in Philly for the holidays - ๐Ÿ‘‹
