Today marks 4 years since my Type 1 diabetes diagnosis and 4 years of proving that challenges don’t have to stop your dreams.

Being diagnosed while building my business changed my world completely and was not exactly what I had in mind when I mapped out my future. As many don’t know, Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease and has nothing to do with lifestyle, exercise, what food you eat, genetics, etc. One day your pancreas decides it’s not going to work anymore and that’s it.

But the biggest lesson I learned was that’s life. Events that are out of our control rock the boat. We didn’t cause it, but we get to control how we respond to it and what we do after. And I think it’s those decisions that shape a person’s character. It’s the way they handle and respond to those things that are outside of their control.

Managing both my business and Type 1 stretched me and grew me in ways that I never thought possible.

But it also made me see myself in a new light: that I’m someone who does hard things. And I do those hard things with a good attitude.

And that right there is a pretty cool thing, I think. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

Congratulations to my cousin Eli and his wife Amanda!

Getting to celebrate you two in France was something I won’t forget, and I’m so happy for the life you two are building together! taken in ChĆ¢teau St.Pierre de Serjac by @audrey_koob

If you leave your mind on autopilot, it’s going to drift toward the negative. Choosing your thoughts on purpose takes practice, and it’s one of the best habits you can build for your business and your life.

Next time a thought starts spiraling, stop and ask yourself whether it’s actually true or just the direction your brain went while you weren’t paying attention. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

Nobody warns you about the moment your job and your family need you at the same time. You assume that when something real happens, work will understand and make room. Then it actually happens, and you find out how little of your own life you control. Permission to be there for the people you love shouldn’t be something another person gets to grant or deny.

That’s the real reason I own a business. It’s not for the income or title. It’s that when someone I love needs me, I go, and there’s no one to ask.

You only get so many of the moments that matter, and they never reschedule themselves. Build a life where you never have to choose between showing up for your family and keeping your job. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

Everyone I know who’s built something real got told no more times than the people who quit.

That’s the whole difference, and it’s not a very inspiring answer, but it’s the true one.

The no’s are on the path, not blocking it. What you get to decide is how many you’ll let talk you out of something you actually want. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

Protecting my headspace turned out to be one of the most practical business decisions I’ve made. Not in a woo way, in a very literal way.

Complaining is contagious and so is belief, and I’d rather spend my time around people who are actively building something than people who are explaining why they can’t.

Look at who you’re around most and be honest about which category they fall into. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

I think about this a lot.

The decision to go all in and bet on myself didn’t feel brave at the time, it mostly felt terrifying.

Looking back on it now, that was the whole thing.

Everything I have came out of one decision I made before I had any proof it would work out. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

The honest answer is no, you don’t NEED to cut people off. I didn’t ghost anyone or have some dramatic conversation about how we were on different paths.

What I did do was get intentional about where my time went.

There were people from high school and college who were completely fine being the same person in ten years, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

It just wasn’t what I wanted for myself, and I couldn’t spend every weekend around it and still expect to change. taken in Cincinnati by @audrey_koob

Another great week at the Broadmoor on a company trip! The beauty and history of the hotel was something that you can only experience in person.

We got to hear some amazing speakers and get recognized for all the work we have been putting in over the last 6 months!

So incredibly gratefulšŸ«¶šŸ» by @audrey_koob

Waking up this past week at the Broadmoor has been incredible.

People ask me why I work so hard. I work hard to build something for my future family. To give them every opportunity. To have the freedom of time and money to do what I want, where I want, and with who I want.

And that right there is something only building a business will give you.

So that is why I work so hard. It’s for moments and memories and experiences like this.

So unbelievably grateful. taken in The Broadmoor by @audrey_koob
