@tmetfilmfest nighttime screenings start tonight, so I’d thought I’d share a couple book excerpts from my winter semester thesis “Pause For Moments

these people have changed my life, and I cannot wait for you all to see these films and everything they make next.

More photos to come :)

Pause For Moments (2024)

Photography, like filmmaking, is never a solitary act. It breathes through many bodies — shaped by the breath and rhythm of those around me, by glances exchanged and moods that settle into corners of a room. What we make together is temporary, fragile, and yet it lingers. The images in this book were formed in the middle of all that — in the hum of collaboration, in the warmth of shared momentum.

I don’t hover above the moment — I am inside it. Moving gently, listening and feeling. To bear witness to the care and intention people offer each other - in how they work, how they listen, how they love - allows the act of seeing to become reciprocal.

Sometimes, I feel as if I am disappearing into my work. Maybe that’s the truth of it - that to photograph is to dissolve, to slip quietly into the background so that others can be seen more clearly. Most days I prefer it that way, to witness without interruption. To belong without demanding to be seen.

Within that disappearance however, there is presence. Every image I make holds traces of myself. What I choose to notice, what I love and thus, what I choose to hold onto. In seeing others — and in turn, helping them see themselves — I leave behind a map of who I was in that moment, too.

My existence, the work I create and the people I make it with are forever and deeply entwined. I wouldn’t wish for it to be any other way.

this project is so deeply personal and close to my heart, and I am so honoured to be showing it alongside my wildly talented cohort.

‘begin’
excerpt from thesis
2024

I spent many days as a child playing in the forest, and by the water - it was here that there seemed to exist a universe that belonged only to myself - free of expectations and judgement. I haven’t ever been back to that forest, not since I left. I’m not sure if it would feel the same, I’m not sure I want to know.

From the best 2 weeks I spent in LaLa Land this past September.

Getting to photograph TIFF was the biggest dream come true, I’m so greatful to @brainscramblemag and @cecetangg for letting me check this one off the bucket list.

I think the best part of all of it though was getting to spend the (long) days with the most incredible, kind, welcoming people. I don’t know how I got so lucky, I’m still waiting for someone to pinch me. taken in TIFF by @audrey_persaud
