Today is World Rare Disease day.
It’s a day that every year mostly makes me want to stay under my covers and hide from the world, but I feel it’s important to share my voice. “Rare” has changed my whole life. People in the chronic illness community advocate today for many reasons — hope for change, awareness, longing for research, etc., but I feel more than anything to share simply because I believe our voices are worthy to be heard.

So, this is dedicated to
The people that have more diagnoses than fingers on their hands.
For the people who have to travel the country, even the world, to get adequate care.
For those who have had to educate doctors on their condition when they were supposed to be the patient.
For those who have spent more time in a waiting room than at school.
For the people whose only option is to fit an inhumane amount of surgeries into one year.
For those who go to the ER only to be treated like they are crazy because doctors don’t believe such rare conditions actually exist (this has been my experience in 5 different states).
For people who know suffering more than they know safety.
This is to be a voice for those whose daily reality often has to be censored because it is too intense for most conversations, alienating their human experience on a whole new level.

Rare sucks. It is lonely. But rare is my story and the story of many of my friends. Making space to share this piece of my life is a simple way that I can honor my history and my humanity. If you got this far, thank you so much for reading this. If you know someone with a rare disease, pick a day - a normal day, and simply tell them that they are seen.

I truly think that sanding makes a big difference in the quality of my pieces! It’s definitely optional though! If you’re a beginner and you have a nail file laying around, use that!

Das air dry clay
- Craftsmart ivory acrylic paint
- Folkart 11929 Hazy Moon acrylic paint
- Caliart C807 Yellow Ochre acrylic paint
Beetles Top Coat
SunUV light
