Year 7/7 complete!🍀🤍

Safe to say there were A LOT of things I didn’t have time to mention in my Claim of Honor.

This camp has meant more to me than I could ever put into words. I’m so grateful I got to spend my final year as a Big Leader for the same team where I first started as a little camper and little leader, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to lead this year. You all made my last year one I’ll never forget. I wrote about 4-H camp in my college essay because it’s been such a huge part of who I’ve become. This camp has taught me lessons that no classroom ever could. It taught me leadership, confidence, empathy, and the importance of showing up for others. Every camper, counselor, and staff member I’ve met here has shaped me in one way or another. I hope I’ve been able to teach something to everyone I’ve met at camp too. Whether it was walking you to class, being your counselor for one year or several, having a simple conversation, or showing you empathy when you needed it most, I hope I made a positive impact and I’ve inspired future Big Leaders and counselors to carry on the positive impact I’ve made and continue passing it on to future campers. As we sang Lean on Me one last time, I realized those words mean so much more than just a IOW/SOCO camp tradition. To anybody who’s at camp now, please know that you can always lean on me for anything, my door will always be open. 4-H camp will forever hold a special place in my heart just like the friendships and memories I’ve made, and I hope one day I’ll get to send my own kids here, just like my mom sent me years ago like when she went.

While this chapter as a counselor and Big Leader has come to an end, I’m hoping it’s not goodbye forever, instead maybe it’s just “goodnight” and who knows… maybe next time I’ll be back as a staff member?? With tons of love, Audrey out!❤️

(Out of respect for Bridgette’s mom’s wishes and privacy, I’ve blurred Bridgette’s face in these photos.)

Officially a Hickory alumni🎓🤍

High school wasn’t easy for me and I’m sure many others can relate to that. It came with a lot of challenges, disappointments, double standards, and moments that tested me. While I’m thankful for the memories I made, the teachers who supported me, the God above that gave me strength, and especially the friends who stood by me, I’m also relieved to leave behind the drama, the cliques, and the pressure that often came with trying to fit in.

One thing Hickory taught me is that kindness will ALWAYS go further than popularity. A simple act of including someone, introducing yourself to a new kid, offering constructive criticism to a teammate, or making someone feel seen can make all the difference!!

Even though high school wasn’t what I thought it would be, it helped shape who I am today and taught me to be myself. I’m proud of myself for making it through, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Here’s to new beginnings, new opportunities, and never looking back!

Back where it all started🏫🤍🎓

It’s crazy to think that years ago we walked the same elementary school halls, knew some of the same people, sat in the same classes, and crossed paths so many times without ever really realizing it. He even passed by my house multiple times a week for years on his way to work, and somehow our paths still didn’t truly connect until years later.

After I moved away and eventually found my way back to primarily living in Southampton County, God brought us back into each other’s lives in a completely different season. Now we’re taking senior pictures at the same school where our stories first overlapped. 🥹

Even though he doesn’t remember much me from back then, it’s funny looking back and realizing how many little connections were there all along. From the same hallways to prom and graduation season, God really does have a way of bringing people back around and I’m so thankful for it!💓

(Official graduation post coming soon, but these pictures were too special not to share first.)

The start to an answered prayer!🦃🧡

For as long as I can remember I always knew to jump to enter sandman, make a cheer to show everyone at the tailgate, and impress the cheerleaders. As I’ve grown, I’ve come to realize that VT was home for me especially with cheer becoming so big in my life. Even when I was little I dreamed of being a VT cheerleader (as shown). As of today, I’m proud to announce that I am a Virginia Tech cheerleader!!! Thank you to all the family, friends, and coaches that have helped me along the way; but most especially Coach Davis. I truly wouldn’t be here without her and the constant encouragement, confidence, and commitment towards me and my dreams/goals.

Long for the days I’ve prayed for me to find my college, when it was right here all along! All the setbacks, hard pushes, sore muscles, high and lows can’t compare to the happiness that comes along with finding home along with the sport I love the most. Thank you God for all the blessings and opportunities I have received and I’m so eternally grateful!! Go Hokies!!

2025 yearbook🤗

this year really taught me patience in every aspect of my life. it was one of the toughest years i’ve faced, especially trying to find myself and groove while balancing school, cheer, faith, family, a social life, and learning the hard truth about fake friends. i felt stretched thin and drained at times, but through it all i learned how important it is to let go of what brings you down. learning to walk away from things and people that no longer served me showed me who my real friends truly were!! it taught me that it’s not about having 20 people around you - it’s about having 5 who genuinely love and support you. quality over quantity, always. even when things didn’t go the way i wanted, i learned to trust that God always has something better planned. that “better” led me to friendships rooted in real love and support, a family that’s been with me every step of the way, and coaches who guided me through some of my toughest moments and pushed me to better. i’m grateful for every opportunity God gave me this year and for the chance to embrace them every single day. as i move into the new year, i hope to continue receiving new opportunities and blessings, especially as i head into college and college athletics.🤗 cannot wait to see what this new year brings!!

The end of my starting point🩵📣

this past saturday marked the end of my time as a hickory competition cheerleader and no words can explain how much i care about this program. hickory cheer has shaped me into the athlete, leader, and person i am today. as my teammates would know, competition cheer holds a special place in my heart apart from sideline cheer. i know i still have two more football games left, but part of me is stuck in a fantasy that i could cheer in high school forever. the heart and effort i’ve put into this program have pushed me to new limits, taught me resilience, and reminded me what true dedication feels like. over the years, i’ve realized just how much this program has shaped me, and because of that, i hope to continue my cheerleading journey at the collegiate level. the friendships i’ve built have been unforgettable, and to my girls, thank you. thank you for not only looking up to me but also inspiring me to be my best continuously. to all the coaches and family, thank you for putting your effort into me, supporting me, and believing in me through every season of competition cheer. now is the moment i remind myself, “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” i’m forever grateful, proud, and humbled to have had the opportunity to be apart of something so special, something that gave me more than i ever could’ve wished for as an athlete. to all current and future hickory cheerleaders, keep pushing just that a little bit further. maybe that means giving extra in a full out, putting in that extra work outside of practice, or going the extra mile, because one day, you won’t have that chance anymore. doing the extra is always worth it, whether others see it or not. i hope i have left my mark on hickory competition cheerleading and inspired my teammates and others who have watched me along the way. one more thing for current and future hickory cheerleaders, continue to keep growing, believing, and building this program stronger and more beautiful every year. closing this chapter with a smile, audrey signing out. 💗
