THE TURN is availble for preorder today! [Link in bio]

About Me:
Audrey Lee’s debut novel, The Mechanics of Memory, was nominated for Edgar®, Anthony, and Lefty awards. The Turn, a speculative thriller, will be released in May of 2027. After two decades in public education, Lee now splits her time between writing and consulting with school systems on educational equity. She can often be found with a dirty martini in hand, making miniatures, betting on slot machines, or tending to a small, high-maintence Maltipoo. Lee lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and (when he’s home from college) her son. by @audreyleeauthor

“Not many things make me happier than noir with a mind-bending twist, and The Turn more that scratches that itch. Audrey Lee has crafted a poker book for the ages that goes to unpredictable, unexpected, and truly exciting places.”
—Rob Hart, USA Today bestselling author of the Assassins Anonymous series and Detour

“Audrey Lee’s razor-sharp prose splices literary and commercial, deftly balancing intergenerational drama with the roguish caper of a time-stopping protagonist tasked with dismantling a time-thieving organization. Rich with Chinese mythology and clever historical landmarks, The Turn is an undeniable page-turner that dissects the covenant of duty and heroism, choice and fate, and blood and water.”
—Jackie Johnson, award-winning author of Bladestay and The Permanents

“What a gem is Audrey Lee. Her writing is a boisterous mixture of Elmore Leonard and David Mitchell, with a lunatic dash of Dorothy Parker to hold it all together. Inventive is too weak a word to describe her work; perhaps extraordinary would suit better. Surely it’s illegal to have this great an imagination? Having just finished reading The Turn, I need to go lie down.”

About THE TURN:

Finn Yang is good with numbers and good at reading people, and that makes him a great poker player. When he discovers a family heirloom—a ring that can pause time—he doesn’t want a grand adventure, just an occasional edge at cards. When his chaotic younger sister moves in without warning, Finn is the one with something to hide.

Anna Zhao is more than a fixer, she’s the best there is. Like her father before her, she is rising fast in a secretive organization that quietly wields unimaginable power. Her loyalty is beyond question, and she has more than earned her position subtly influencing the happenings at the mysterious casino in Chinatown’s gritty underworld. Gaining control of Finn’s ring is simply her next assignment. Until Anna starts asking questions.

Finn and Anna are about to discover a world far more dangerous than they could imagine—and time is about to crack wide open. by @audreyleeauthor

Friday Flashback! Who remembers this show?

If you can't see this picture without also hearing the Imma-bout-to-get-bionic sound (me), or ever jumped off your swingset pretending to be Jaime Sommers (me), then you are my people.

Fun fact: THE TURN is replete with 70s and 80s pop culture references, proudy brought to you by this Gen X author. by @audreyleeauthor

Five seriously good audiobooks I listened to this month and highly recommend for your TBR:

Big Little Truths, Lianne Moriarty
The kids are teens now, and the drama has aged with it. Dare I say this one is even better than Big Little Lies?

The Yahoo Boys, Carlos Barragan
Absolutely fascinating deep dive into the boys behind romance scams in Nigeria. It isn't what you think.

Water Mirror Echo: Bruce Lee and the Making of Asian America, Jeff Chang
I had the honor of meeting Jeff in person, and then the honor of reading this stunningly beautiful book.

Followers, Megan Angelo
A deliciously dark tale told in 2015 and 2051. The irony of this recommendation being posted on social media is not lost on me.

The Secrets We Hide, Karin Slaughter
I will listen to everything Karin Slaughter writes because 1) I adore her and 2) Narrator @kathleenreadsoutloud is outstanding. by @audreyleeauthor

It’s probably good I didn’t think too deeply about launching into a time-pausing book when I began writing. I now have a new respect for anyone who can build a world around this theme, and here are five of my favorites.

11/22/63 [Stephen King]
The only Stephen King book that I didn’t have to shove under an airplane seat in terror. Alternate histories are also having a moment in my brain these days.

Recursion [Blake Crouch]
I love everything he’s written, but this one and Dark Matter top the list. Blake Crouch is a master of page-turning time manipulation.

The Time Traveller’s Wife [Audrey Niffennegger]
A classic that still tops my list and I just realized I need to reread.

A Wrinkle in Time [Madeleine L’Engle]
As a kid and young adult, I read everything of Madeleine L’Engle’s dozens of times over. A Wrinkle in Time is not my very favorite of hers, but she introduced me to scifi. Fun fact: Did you know all of her characters (no matter what series) are all connected in some way? Even more fun fact: because of her, so are mine.

Sea of Tranquility [Emily St. John Mandel]
Jackie Johnson introduced me to Emily St. John Mandel, and wow. Like Leigh Bardugo and V.E. Schwab, boy can this lady do some worldbuilding. Her prose is simultaneously sharp and poetic. She’s the kind of writer that almost makes me want to highlight in the book. (I said almost, I’m not a degenerate.) by @audreyleeauthor
