CLASSICS BOOK CLUB. 8 MONTHS. WAY BY SWANN'S VOL 1.

Starting September, our classics book club will be tackling the first volume of Proust's landmark novel. Some of the best writing on memory and time can be found in these pages.

First meeting is Monday Sept 14th at 7pm.

We are taking it slow, reading 50 pages a month. This will give enough time and attention to Proust's dense and lyrical style.

If you want more information about the book club check out our website or send us an email.

We are so happy to be enveloped in this project. Our host Levi is a self declared Proustian! taken in Audreys Books Ltd. by @audreysbooks

Dear Edmonton, it’s always so hard to say goodbye. 💜

This 15-second reel hardly does justice to what it meant to bring Rise After Silence home.

One of the most meaningful evenings of my book tour was at @audreysbooks, where I sat down with fellow ER physician @drshazmamithani to explore what the ER teaches us about healing.

We talked about what happens after survival, how our patients change us, and why healing doesn’t necessarily mean forgiving, reconciling, or forgetting.

Shazma brought such compassion and depth to the conversation. In a beautiful full-circle moment, a friend from high school who was working at Audrey’s helped host the Q&A and asked one of the night’s most powerful questions: What does it really mean to forgive?

But perhaps the most meaningful moment of my Edmonton visit happened away from the cameras.

My mom read the entire book in one sitting, staying up until 4:40 AM before messaging:

“I couldn’t put our book down!”

There are deeply vulnerable parts of our family history in those pages, including my mom’s experiences of trauma. Knowing she loved the book and believed it could help others was an extraordinary gift.

Of course, she also had editorial feedback. Apparently I used too many big words, including “visceral,” and should make the next book easier for the average person to read. Sorry, Mom!

To everyone who came to an event, bought or reviewed the book, sent an encouraging message, or simply welcomed me home: thank you. You made these days such an emotional high that I’ve barely known how to put them into words.

And to the wonderful team at Audrey’s Books and Dr. Shazma Mithani, thank you for creating space for such an honest, generous, deeply human conversation.

Edmonton is woven through this book and through the fabric of who I am. Bringing this story home has meant more than I can say.

The heart of this book isn’t the wound. It’s what we offer one another afterward.

Rise! 💜🙌

Just a little over TWO WEEKS away from this year’s Harvest Art & Book Fair! We are excited to welcome Edmontonians to ArtsHub Ortona on October 3 + 4 and check out a variety of literary goodies! We are glad to welcome back Audrey’s Books (@audreysbooks)!

We are an Edmonton independent bookstore. We have been downtown for 51 years. The two floors of our bookstore contain new books on a wide range of topics. We have a strong selection of Alberta authors, Indigenous authors, literary fiction, cookbooks and children’s books. Our kid’s section spans most of the lower level, along with crafts, gardening, and a deep discount area, and covers all age ranges from teeny newborns to young adults.

💃🏽🔥 We’re having a book party! 🔥💃🏽

I’m so excited to be joining my friend and fellow author Cristina Quintero for a special joint book signing and children’s book event at Audreys Books in Edmonton!

📅 Saturday, September 26, 2026
⏰ 11:00 AM
📍 Audreys Books, Edmonton

Cristina’s The Only Way to Dance and my Fire in Your Belly are both new picture books for children that celebrate something close to my heart: the stories we carry, the ways we express ourselves, and the connections that shape who we are.

Fire in Your Belly is an Indigenous children’s picture book inspired by the stories and teachings passed down through generations. It explores family, culture, ancestry, and the inner fire we carry with us.

The Only Way to Dance celebrates movement, self-expression, individuality, and finding your own way to move through the world.

We’ll be spending the morning reading our books, sharing stories, meeting readers, signing copies, and celebrating two new children’s books by local authors. There will also be refreshments, and bannock! 🧡

Bring the kids, bring a friend, grab a book, or two, and hang out with us for a morning of stories, movement, and fire. 🔥💃🏽📚

Join us Saturday, September 26 at 11 AM at Audreys Books in Edmonton for our joint book signing!

Come say hi! We’d absolutely love to see you there!❤️

Meet Dr. Shazma Mithani — an Alberta emergency physician and one of Canada’s trusted voices for making complicated health information understandable and grounded in evidence.

Shaz has built a community by talking about medicine in a way that feels accessible, thoughtful and human. She is funny, compassionate, and exceptionally good at asking the questions people are wondering about — and I’m so grateful to call her a friend.

I’m even more grateful that she has agreed to interview me at Audrey’s Books during the first week of the Rise After Silence book tour.

For anyone new to the book, Rise After Silence is part memoir and part stories from my years as an ER doctor. It explores hidden violence, how childhood trauma follows us into adulthood, and how caring for patients changed my understanding of survival, silence and healing.

That’s why bringing this book back to Alberta feels so significant.

Some of the hardest parts of my childhood happened here. But Alberta is also a province I love because of the ways people and public systems helped my family: foster care, welfare support, the food bank, and an excellent public education that helped open the door to medical school.

Later, Hope Mission and managers at Mill Woods Town Centre kept watch over my mother when she had no fixed address until I could help get her back into community housing.

And nearly 30 years later, Alberta provided my father’s court records and my foster-care records, answering questions I had carried for decades.

📚 Sunday, October 11 — Indigo West Edmonton Mall
My only Edmonton Indigo signing and the final day of Canadian launch week. WEM is generously bringing in substantial stock, and I would be so grateful to anyone who comes by and picks up a signed copy. Launch-week purchases matter enormously as I try to give the book its strongest chance of reaching a national bestseller list.

🎤 Tuesday, October 13 — Audrey’s Books
A special homecoming conversation with Dr. Shazma Mithani, where we’ll go deeper into the stories and themes behind the book.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Shaz, Audrey’s Books and Indigo West Edmonton Mall for supporting this homecoming. ❤️ by @audreysbooks

Every year we host a Truth & Reconciliation Screening event, uplifting the voices and stories of Indigenous creatives and reflecting, listening, and learning from those who shared.

Join us this year, on September 30th, for an afternoon of film, literature and conversation featuring local Indigenous filmmakers and authors sharing their work, experiences and stories with the community. 📖🎬

The event will begin at 3:45PM with a smudge and opening from Elder Terry Lusty, followed by presentations from two Indigenous authors and two Indigenous filmmakers. Each guest will share their work and take part in a Q&A with the audience. The gathering will close with words from Elder Dan Cardinal around 6:00PM.

🧡 This event is free to attend, but advance registration is required as space is limited.
