Had to post to insta bc so many people were asking about it on TikTok, GO CHECK HIM OUT!! He’s literally so cool, his wife has a shop as well called A Rustic Twist!! He’s open Saturdays & Sundays 11am-4pm!!

Here’s the address! 8601 Ave P #3. From 82nd & Ave P go south to the 87th street sign. Turn left and drive through the open gate. I’m the 1st building on the left (it says Stan’s) right behind A Rustic Twist.

And that’s a wrap for Advanced Studio 2!!

This semester, we were challenged to design a boutique hotel with a production space built around the alcohol of a country of our choice. I chose Japan, and built my concept around @dassai_blue sake.

When starting this project, I knew I wanted to design a space that felt different from the fast paced feeling of everyday life. I’ve always been drawn to the intentionality behind Japanese design and the way spaces are created with purpose instead of excess, and that became a huge driver for my concept.

The name Shinpaku Kakurega (心白隠れ家) reflects the hotel’s concept as a peaceful retreat centered around the culture and craftsmanship of sake. Shinpaku refers to the white core of premium sake rice where fermentation begins, symbolizing purity and the refined brewing process associated with Dassai sake, which is also produced on site. Kakurega means “hidden retreat,” representing an intimate sanctuary removed from the outside world.

I wanted the hotel to feel like a place people could fully slow down in, so I designed the experience so guests gradually move from more open and social spaces into quieter and more private ones throughout the hotel. A lot of my decisions were based around creating balance between hospitality, nature, and the sake brewing experience without making the space feel overwhelming.

This project pushed me creatively and technically in so many ways, but I’m really proud of how it came together and how much thought went into every part of the experience. So thankful for everything I learned this semester, and even more grateful for my peers & professors who helped teach and encourage me along the way!!
