Senior Advice to the upcoming class 🥳

Part 3: Post-admission checklist

YOU’RE ACCEPTED! 🎉 Now what?! Before classes start, there’s a crucial to-do list to check off to ensure you’re ready for Day 1. The school should’ve sent you an email with more details, but here is our take on what you need to do immediately after accepting that offer:

1️⃣ Activate & Secure Your Accounts: The very first step is often setting up your official school email and, importantly, setting up Duo Authentication. You can’t register or access resources without this! Make sure to download duo on your phone.

2️⃣ Register & Pay for Classes: Don’t wait on this one! Secure your spot in the required courses. Check your program plan and your enrollment window. Make sure to sign up for the correct campus (Augusta or Athens) so you sign up for the right location.

3️⃣ Verify Immunizations & Health Testing: The clinical requirements are strict and time-sensitive. Track down your records and get any necessary boosters, titers, or TB tests done immediately. This process often takes the longest & some may have to get a repeat Hep B vax.

4️⃣ Order Your Scrubs (ON TIME!): Trust me, do not procrastinate on this. Our school has specific embroidery requirements. Ordering windows are short, they have to embroider every program at our school, and processing takes ALOT OF time. The seniors recommend 3 scrub sets.

5️⃣ Update Your BLS Certification & drug screen: Make sure your Basic Life Support (BLS) is current. It’s required to be valid through the entirety of the program. A drug screen is also required once a year.

6️⃣ Gather Your Technology & Materials: Review the program technology requirements. This includes the right laptop (many have specific OS and browser needs for testing software) + attachments (privacy screen, usb adapter, ethernet).

7️⃣ Get Your Student ID: You’ll need this physical ID for access to the campus, testing, library, and ur student ID#. Look up instructions for submitting a photo.

Senior Advice to the incoming juniors 🥳

Part 2: Parking and Passes

Parking at AU can be quite confusing at the Health Science Campus. It can be hectic to navigate reserved spaces, lots that you can park at with a parking pass, and where you have to pay to park. Many departments share the parking lots & everyone is often getting to campus around the same time!

Depending on how early you like to get to class, many of us who live off campus like to leave 30-40 minutes before class starts in order to find time for parking. Especially the first couple days it’s a good idea to leave earlier so you can get a feel for the parking options, establish your schedule, and figure out how to get to class! It’s not a bad idea to get together before school starts and walk to the different locations to see campus + the parking options.
Many of us like to park in the 5 floor Health science parking deck by the dental college, Laney Walker lot #61 (across the railroad tracks and at the stadium), lot #35 and #69 by the gas station, the Health Sciences lot by the library (IF u get there early enough and a spot is open, or lot #28 (across from Piedmont Hospital).

As you get accustomed to your personal routines, you’ll be coming to campus, learn where you like to park, & how early you need to leave (keep in mind the Augusta TRAINS when coming to and from school so you don’t get stuck!)

Parking passes are $50 EACH semester (so you have to make sure you get another at the start of every semester to avoid a $50 fine) and the pass allows you to park at any AU student parking lot. KEEP IN MIND to NOT park in reserved spots/garages for patient parking.

Shoutout to Sinclaire & Crystal for getting our run club started!🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️💨 We had such a fun time today getting some miles in and getting our O’s to our toes!! A perfect way to take your mind off of school. Plus, the pedialyte popsicles were a nice little reward😝

Run club is every Wednesday at 5 PM if you want to come out, connect with your peers, and get a workout in! Everyone is welcome!!🫶🏼 by @aug_msncnl
