Being a mom and trying to find things to do during the summer can get stressful and overwhelming lol especially when it’s 100° outside and you have a toddler who needs to GO. 😂

And if you know me, you know I can’t sit still either… so between the two of us, staying home all summer was never an option.

We definitely still do plenty of outdoor things we just work around the heat! Early mornings, lots of sunscreen, lots of water, and if we’re outside in the middle of an Oklahoma summer day, there’s probably a pool, splash pad or some other kind of water involved. 😂☀️💦

Some of our go-to summer activities:

☀️ Early morning park walks usually between 7–9 before it gets unbearably hot
🥞 Breakfast dates
🏖️ Beach/lake trips
💦 Splash pads & pools
🦖 Sam Noble Dinosaur Museum in Norman
🐠 Aquarium days + a little Tulsa trip
🦁 Zoo - our first stop is always the splash pad by the Elephants lol
🔬 Science Museum
📚 Library days, there are SO many different ones to explore!
🛍️ Walking around the mall, Sam’s, or Target, YES Target absolutely counts as an activity 😂
🍕 Chuck E. Cheese
🛝 Indoor playgrounds - monthly memberships are usually worth it if you go often
🏊 Swim lessons - an activity AND something useful
🍽️ Kids-eat-free/discount nights because sometimes dinner IS the activity

Nothing groundbreaking or complicated just little ways I’ve found to keep us busy, get out of the house, and make summer with a toddler feel a little easier. 🤍

If you’ve been feeling stuck, this one’s for you!

I’m all about motivation, but I also know it’s hard to find motivation when you feel stuck.

Lately I’ve been asking myself how I can use what I’ve learned to make a difference for someone else. This is one small way I want to start.

Last night I was going through old messages, pictures, and videos because my phone storage was completely full..😂

As I scrolled through years of memories, I noticed something that really stopped me and made me reflect.

There were so many messages from people checking in on me, encouraging me, wishing me well, even wanting to get together and catch up…and I never responded.

Looking back at that season of my life, I realized something I hadn’t fully put into words before.

I wasn’t okay.

For a long time, I buried my hurt instead of facing it. I convinced myself I was fine, when in reality I was grieving, growing up, and trying to outrun a lot of pain. Instead of dealing with it, I drowned it out.

When people reached out, I didn’t know how to answer because I didn’t have an honest answer to give.

Looking back, I know I hurt people who genuinely cared about me. Not because I wanted to, but because hurt people often don’t know how to let themselves be loved. That’s not an excuse…it’s just the truth.

Seeing old photos of myself honestly broke my heart. I wish I could hug that version of me and tell her she was going to make it.

To everyone who reached out, especially those who checked on me more than once… thank you. I’m sorry I never responded. Your kindness mattered more than you probably realized, even if I wasn’t able to show it at the time.

Today, I’m incredibly grateful. Grateful for healing. Grateful for the people who stayed. Grateful for the people who loved me when I wasn’t easy to love. And grateful for the life I’m building now.

If you’re in a season where you’re carrying more than anyone knows, I hope you know this: healing is possible. It doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen. One day you’ll look back at the person you used to be with compassion instead of shame.

I know people often say “don’t take the easy way out” and I used to think that meant I had to choose to do hard things, but I’ve learned just because you live an easy life that is filled with joy, doesn’t mean you’re taking the easy way out.

And if you were one of the people who reached out to me all those years ago… thank you. I haven’t forgotten your kindness. by @augge
