ᒪOᐯE TᕼᗩT ᗰOᐯEᔕ TᕼE ᔕᒪᑌG 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟮/𝟭𝟬 𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗔𝗦𝗞 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮, 𝟮𝟬:𝟯𝟬 Animation is a strange beast – often quite literally. Things that really shouldn’t move do move. The impossible becomes possible; the fantastical becomes real. With this collection of short creature features, we’re writing a colourful love letter to everything that crawls, swarms and wriggles. Expect a hip-swinging sea snail, a kettle driving round and a coffee pot with lobster claws. As well as a Moomin episode featuring a new soundtrack created by synthesiser sensation Vessel. The programme has been lovingly curated by artist 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗸 𝗗𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗾, alongside her solo exhibition 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙪𝙣, on view at STUK in Leuven until 13 December 2026. From the love that moves the sun to the slug that sings along 𓆑 Yesterday, Anouk De Clercq's new film installation 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙪𝙣 opened at STUK in Leuven, inviting us to step into a nocturnal forest where stars drift, fireflies dance and animals gather to sing up the sun. And tonight, as part of the TAKEOFF UUR KULTUUR 2026, ever stranger creatures appear... For 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙡𝙪𝙜, Anouk and longtime collaborator Vessel have put together a special selection of short films featuring Moomins, a hip-swaying sea slug and other unlikely critters, all set to Vessel's music. Tomorrow in Malmö, Sven Augustijnen publicly defends his PhD, 𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒆: 𝑫𝒆 𝑱𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒐 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑮𝒂𝒛𝒂, at Malmö Art Academy in Sweden. The defence takes place alongside the ongoing exhibition of 𝑭𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒆: 𝑫𝒆 𝑱𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒐 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑮𝒂𝒛𝒂 at the Academy. Filmed in 2019 and completed in 2025, the film follows Brussels-based Palestinian diplomat Hassan Al Balawi on a journey from Jericho towards the Gaza border. Through conversations and encounters along the way, the film reflects on the occupied West Bank and the failures and contradictions of the Oslo peace process. What do you hear when you listen to the earth? For almost ten years, Léonard Pongo has been travelling through the Democratic Republic of Congo, exploring the relationships between people, land and the living world. In 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙪𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚, photography, video and textiles come together in a spatial installation developed especially for FOMU. Drawing on Congolese traditions, symbolism and philosophy, Pongo’s work looks beyond typical representations to ask how we might experience and understand the land differently. Opening tomorrow at @galerie_martin_janda in Vienna: 𝙷𝚎𝚛 𝚅𝚘𝚒𝚌𝚎, an exhibition bringing together works by Chantal Akerman and Manon de Boer, curated by Jan Mot as part of this year’s edition of @curatedby.at The exhibition brings together two practices connected by a sustained interest in voice, listening, presence and the relationship between image and speech. At its centre is Manon de Boer’s 𝙿𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝙲.𝙰. (𝚂𝚊 𝚟𝚘𝚒𝚡) (2020), a 16mm sculpture made in dialogue with the voice and work of Chantal Akerman. 𝙷𝚎𝚛 𝚅𝚘𝚒𝚌𝚎 is presented alongside 𝙸𝚊𝚗 𝚆𝚒𝚕𝚜𝚘𝚗. Yesterday marked a special opening at The Box, Wexner Center for the Arts, for 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼’s 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦. Presented in Columbus, Ohio from 1 September to 31 October, the immersive film takes us into the landscapes of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where forests, rivers and terrain become living presences. Through multispectral images and an original score by 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝗟𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝘄, 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦 moves between documentary and speculative fiction, inviting us to see the land otherwise. The presentation also creates a beautiful connection with 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗺𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗷𝗶, whose exhibition 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘌𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘐𝘵 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘉𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴 opens at the Wexner Center later this month.
