Baththa (2026) is a quirky, heartfelt comedy-drama starring Vijay Sethupathi in the titular role alongside young child actor Sai Prithviraj. Set against the nostalgic backdrop of North Madras in the 1980s, the film steers clear of traditional gangster violence to explore themes of innocence, vulnerability, and personal redemption.

The narrative revolves around Baththa, a fearsome local don whose reputation inspires sheer terror throughout his neighborhood. However, the story takes an absurd and crucial turn when Sabari, a timid third-standard schoolboy, accidentally locks the dreaded gangster inside a school restroom. Paralyzed by the fear of payback, the terrified young boy decides to keep the incident a complete secret while the whole town goes into a frenzy searching for their missing don.

What follows is an unexpected emotional dynamic between an innocent child burdened by a heavy secret and a hardened criminal forced into an unusual situation. Rather than relying on high-octane action, the film uses lighthearted humor, warmth, and human connection to show how an unlikely series of events can crack a tough exterior and help someone rediscover their long-lost humanity. by @aumotions
