Finally had the courage to open up the devotional that my dad started reading right before he went to be with Jesus. Ironically (yet not ironic to God), it is called One Day Nearer. Thankful for this precious read that dad left behind. And thankful to The Lord that we can have joy in grief. Joy in Him and His promises for us.

On this Christmas Eve we grieve the silly goose that you were. The real life Santa Claus who always made his baby girls laugh their heads off… and never actually used any of the gifts we gave you!

Christmas Eve without you is by far one of the hardest nights of our lives, Daddy. We have already shed many tears in your absence tonight while holding on to sweet memories of your presence. We still can’t believe you’re gone. The house is so much quieter without you. Wish you were here with us to lose one more game of whist and fall asleep to Home Alone.

Today would have been your 66th birthday. My heart is broken knowing we won’t be able to celebrate it with you here with us.

Daddy I love you and I know you are in Heaven with Jesus. I am so thankful that what you knew in part, you now know in full. It is the only thing that brings me joy in the midst of absolute agony. The hope of Heaven…what a truth to hang on to.

My dad’s email to me in response to my most recent ministry update.

I love you daddy and I’m completely broken. But I thank God you are not suffering. I thank Jesus for preparing a place for you. You are whole. You are complete. You are free. And you are forever in my heart. Your love for Christ was bold. Those who mourn you will know. We will tell them all. Every ear will hear about the Good News of Jesus Christ and we pray He will use this awful tragedy to bring many to Him. I love you. See you soon daddy.
