Have you met Bev?

Buckle up, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride and you’re riding shotgun. Bev’s an outback oracle, dispensing diesel-fuelled wisdom from his 18-wheeler pulpit. He’s clocked a million miles and has a story for everyone – some tall, some true, all a window into a life lived on the road. But something’s changing in Bev’s world and it’s not just the gears. He’s a larrikin with some rough edges and controversial views that might make you clutch your pearls. But hear him out, his experiences offer a rare glimpse into a world that’s often overlooked. Part comedy, part meditation on a changing Australia, this solo show is the latest genre-defying work from Jonny Hawkins (Maureen: Harbinger of Death) and Nell Ranney. Strap in for a journey that’s equal parts laughter and reflection, with a few detours into the surreal. And please, keep an eye out for roos.

@djmattvaughan was the first person I ever told about @tracksofourqueers over a drink in the Bearded Tit (may she rest) and has been cheering me on ever since - so it is a genuine honour and blessing to help him pull together a very special mini doc/poddy to celebrate TWENTY whole years of his magnificent and magical party LOOSE ENDS.

To sustain a party, queer or straight, anywhere in the world, for two decades is nothing short of shocking, but anyone who has been on that dance floor knows exactly why it continues.

I really love to hear stories of queer nightlife spaces we still have or have lost from all around the world, so even if you’re not in Australia and have never heard of Loose Ends, I think you’ll still love to hear about this very special party.

Galah Gala is nearly here!

This Saturday I’m heading to Bundanon with the Falconers of Fashion for a night of art, fashion, music and home made bird costumes.

I need to know: what bird will you be at the Gala?

Galah glamour? A brooding Gang Gang? Perhaps an Ibis with delusions of grandeur?

Colour is your friend. Iridescence is your calling. The Ibis understands that glamour is a state of mind, not a tax bracket. Interpretations welcome. Literal costume. High fashion homage. Cuckoo couture. Conceptual plumage. All valid. “I wore a feather boa” is not.
