Most of the time I think the preteen years are real-life Hunger Games and the odds are NOT in my favor. But this morning gave me a glimpse of hope. My sweet baby girl made me and her dad pb&j s for this morning. She even packed us a surprise 🤣❤️ by @aupharmd

Can I be real for a moment? Social media has made us all see this perfect little picture of people’s lives and sometimes we feel like we’re the only one who struggles. You see, while yesterday was truly a milestone event in our family, a day for celebration, it was also a painful one. These last four years weren’t necessarily “the best time of her life”. Pictures of smiling faces are missing some—and that hurts. Reality of what’s next starts to sink in, and that’s scary. So while there is immense joy in the milestone, there’s also sadness and fear and so many other emotions, existing in the same space, equally present and felt. Life is not perfect. There are no filters for it. It is joy and pain, happy and sad, excited and fearful, and a thousand other things. Pictures don’t convey that. by @aupharmd

This is a (sort of) short story about fruit. There is absolutely a valid explanation for a mandarin in my car’s hood—but that’s unimportant and longer. So just accept it for a moment. This mandarin, once severed from its source of nutrients and life—its tree—was always slowly dying. Even with who knows what chemicals and preservatives it was bound for the compost life. It’s heading there even more violently now. A fruit separated from its life source will ALWAYS decay! It’s been a hard week around my house! If you ever doubt the innate animal instincts humans have, just mess with a mama’s kids. Mama Bear instincts take over and claws come out. As much as I’d love to drive to Erie or Birmingham or right down the street to “handle” things for them—I can’t. Nor am I called to come claws out. The only thing I’m called to bring to the situation is fruit. The fruit of the vine I’m attached to. And, it’s not supposed to be rotten, poisonous fruit. It’s supposed to be love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, and self-control. I’m so grateful for coworkers who remind me of these fruits daily and for a God who tells me to retract my claws and let Him work things for His good. Because I desperately want to “handle” things. But I also don’t want to be a mandarin rotting away in the sun. Man, life is hard, I’m flawed, but God is good by @aupharmd
