“What didn't break me, made me better.” ~Lil Baby🖤💛 #classof2023 by @aureliamendozaaa
The hardest part of this high school flag football journey is when the season comes to a sudden end. We worked hard during our ups and downs and did everything we could to create a winning culture. Since I was a little girl, I have always loved football and said, “One day, I’m going to play football.” When I was in 4th grade all the girls would be playing soccer during recess and I would be playing tackle football with the boys😂. I was made fun of for not being able to throw a football and I went home crying that day and told my dad that I wanted to learn how to throw a football. That afternoon, I learned how to throw a football and fast. The next school day, I showed those boys that girls can throw too. 6th grade came along and I told myself, “I will not graduate high school without some type of girls football team whether it’s flag or tackle. As the years went on I trained in the hot and in the cold, rain and the shine. Senior year came up quick and I was informed that there will be a girls flag football team in the spring. I was so happy and my dream was coming true. I was selected to be one of the Quarterbacks for the flag football team and my dream had finally come true at last. The girls that I now consider my sisters had changed my life. I will never forget going to Buffalo and training with my favorite team. I ended up meeting Micah Hyde and it was something I’ll never forget. I’ll never forget our team dinners, bus rides and most of all, coaches wife’s homemade cookies that she would make every time we won a game. I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting me through this flag football journey and I will forever love and cherish my flag football family for life. I hope to put on the Quarterback wristband again in the future and I hope that I will leave a legacy on Athena. Thank you Greece Athena Flag Football for making my childhood dream come true. I will miss you guys so much and I know you guys will do absolutely great in the future. It’s been one hell of a story. WE COMIN’! #17out ❤️ by @aureliamendozaaa
