Nobody prepares you for how much you’ll have to release before the blessing shows up.
This baby shower was a total surprise — planned entirely by @cle.an.main who handled EVERYTHING. The decor, the dress, the makeup. Down to the last detail. 🤍
If you’re in Atlanta and need someone for your own event, they are it. Go check them out and book them — they deserve every reservation coming their way.
But before this moment, there was a season of separation. Betrayal. Distance I didn’t see coming. There were days I went without talking to anyone who really knew me. I genuinely didn’t think I’d build real friendships here.
Then I found this circle. They checked on me daily. Cooked for me. Made sure I was never alone in the hardest part of my season.
Every hard thing before this led me straight here.
There’s probably someone you’re still praying against instead of for. I know, because I was there too.

Nobody prepares you for raising a child in a country that isn’t yours.

When my first son was born in Cameroon, my mother came. Then my aunts. They took turns at my house for weeks and I did nothing — I ate, I slept, I held my baby.

This time it’s just me. Ordering everything myself, researching everything myself, with no one to ask.

So here’s what I bought, and the 3 things I wish someone had told me:

1️⃣ Buy for the life you actually have, not the one on Pinterest.

2️⃣ You won’t have a village here. Build the smallest one you can — even two people counts.

3️⃣ Asking for help isn’t weakness. Where I’m from, it’s just normal.

A few weeks before my due date, I wanted to see where it was all going to happen. Walking in, it finally felt real: in a few weeks, I’ll be meeting my baby here.

Nobody warns you that becoming a mother means meeting a version of yourself you didn’t know existed.

1️⃣ The patience I thought I had? Tested daily. The patience I actually have? Bigger than I knew.
2️⃣ I thought I needed to have it together to be a good mom. Showing up undone counts too.
3️⃣ Motherhood didn’t erase who I was before. It added a version of me I hadn’t met yet.

Got my CPR card. 🫶 Because apparently that’s just a parenting requirement now.

Nobody tells you how many “adult” certifications become urgent the moment a baby’s on the way.

Things I miss about Cameroon that I didn’t think I would miss. 🇨🇲

1️⃣ Help that doesn’t cost a fortune — back home, help was everywhere and affordable.

2️⃣ Pregnancy cravings in a new country — craving Malta, Djino, or bitter kola while pregnant here means driving hours just to find them.ng here tastes the same.

3️⃣ Family dinners nobody had to plan. Back home, people just showed up.

4️⃣ Haggling in the market. Turns out it was connection, not just commerce.

Missing home doesn’t mean I regret being here. Both things are true at once.
