A lovely surprise to see the Legend Espresso and Milk Bar chair and light we recently gifted to @ngvmelbourne on display. Cultural institutions play an important role in protecting, documenting, and sharing a wide range of creative works. @modernistermister and I see collecting as an important part of our research, and our goal has always been to highlight and celebrate innovative Australian mid-century design through the gifting of what we believe are objects of significant historical value. It’s an honour to have gifted 22 items to the @ngvmelbourne collection. It’s important to support our cultural institutions, and that support can take many different forms. Whether it’s attending an exhibition, a play, a talk, volunteering, or donating works, we can all play a part in shaping a diverse and dynamic creative culture. by @ausmodern

Thank you to all who supported Postcards For Palestine. Despite the challenges, the shadow banning, the attacks on our accounts, and a few individuals who are opposed to the idea of raising funds to help deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza, we worked together to raise much needed funds for @panzma__ and @olivekids We are so thankful to be a part of such a generous community who believe in the importance of human rights for all people. Our thanks to the many artists who donated their time to make the wonderful artworks, and the buyers who purchased works. Every dollar we spend, every action we take, every word we speak, is a declaration of our beliefs and the world we want to create. Free Palestine. by @ausmodern

Thank you to all the artists, buyers, and supporters of the Postcards For Palestine project. We couldn’t do these projects without your dedication and generosity. Although there were numerous attempts to report posts and make fake profiles, we all worked together as a community held together by our belief in international human rights and the collective rights of Palestinians to self-determination and a state they can call home. A final total of monies raised will be posted on @modernistersfor in the coming week. Image: ‘Peace Dove for Gaza’, 2025, by Yvette Vecta. @vexta by @ausmodern

This 5 bedroom 1970s 2 storey home at 2 Takapuna Street, Caulfield South, Victoria, is on the market for 2,950,000. Designed by architect Charles Justin, this home just needs some sympathetic renovation to make it sparkle again. Lots of original features, but the bedrooms are giving off whiteout fairy meets golf caddie vibes. What changes would you make? See my story for the listing. This 4 bedroom home at 1 Moonga Road, Toorak, Victoria, is in the market for $1,800,000-$1,980,000. Built in the 1970s, this architect designed home is brimming with potential. If you can look past the decor, you will see generous rooms waiting for a sympathetic intervention. Set this home free from its beige chains, add colour, furniture, lighting, and artwork. What changes would you make? See my story for the listing. This mid-century 2 bedroom apartment at 7/150 Power Street, Hawthorn, is on the market for $850,000 - $930,000. Designed by Fredrick Romberg of Grounds, Romberg and Boyd, this modernist pad has the pedigree and bags of style. Features include extensive glazing, exposed brick, timber floors, and built-in cabinetry. The apartment has been recently updated, which may explain the contemporary black tiles in the bathroom and the splashback in the kitchen. You also get a little courtyard where you can enjoy your coffee on a lazy afternoon. It’s a lot of money for a small 2 bedroom apartment, but there’s no doubting the sheer pleasure that will be felt by the lucky person who gets to call this mcm classic home. Could you live here? This 4 bedroom 1960s home at 4 Nola Court, Toorak, Victoria, is on the market for $6.7-7.3 million. The home has no heritage protection and will most likely be demolished to make way for an ugly McMansion. This is a banger, just look at those floor to ceiling windows, parquetry floors, and built-in cabinetry. The bathroom clearly had an 80’s relapse, but there is more good than bad in this stunning architectural gem. As Australian property prices continue to be fuelled by investors who benefit from CGT discounts and Negative Gearing, the future is grim for mid-century homes. See my story for the listing. After months of careful planning and research, the long awaited exhibition ‘Schulim Krimper: mid-century artist and master craftsman’ is open to the public. Curated by the immensely talented @kirstyalexandergrant who also curated the blockbuster exhibition ‘Mid-Century Modern:Australian Furniture Design’ at NGV, there is plenty here to delight and ignite the passions of any visitor to the exhibition.

Schulim Krimper was a master craftsman and his furniture is highly prized by collectors, galleries, and the families whose pieces are imbued with potent stories of meetings with the great man who transformed Australian timbers into objects of incredible and enduring beauty.

The exhibition features 41 pieces, many from private collections, some publicly displayed for the first time. There is also a wonderful exhibition catalogue filled with sumptuous photographs, an essay by Kirsty Grant, and a reprint of Terence Lane’s essay from his Krimper publication in 1987.

Congratulations to Kirsty Grant and the team at Bayside Gallery for a brilliant exhibition. Krimper: mid-century artist and master craftsman is a must see for anyone who appreciates beautiful furniture.
