"if they do it to them, they'll do it to you"

For those who don't know 2 days ago interim superintendent James Feil made the decision to deny permission in letting Watertown High School perform the musical "Flashdance." In result of this decision, musical director Ryan Moldenhauer, has decided to step down from director position this year. This decision has impacted so many. All of the people I surround myself with are deeply saddened by this and I've also had multiple people reach out and ask about context on what's happening and sending support for Flashdance the musical. A whole community of people who love music have started to come together and try and make a difference and that's the most important part. This decision to not allow us to perform Flashdance affects everyone deeply, so many people are hurt, saddened, and concerned by this and we hope our pleads and voices can help make a difference.

I've been working with Ryan Moldenhauer since my freshman year and I've been performing since I was 10. Musical theater means a lot to me and especially in these last couple years. Getting to know and collaborate with Ryan Moldenhauer has been the highlight of my high school career. He always goes above and beyond to make us have fun and ALWAYS feel comfortable no matter what we're doing. Doing a different musical with a different director just does not feel right to me. Moldenhauer knows all of our abilities through and through and he works for us, he picks things for us, and designs things to work as he visions it with our specific skill sets and he is truly the best director for us. I hope that we will be able to put on this show and work with him again this year but if things don't work out I will be forever grateful for the shows that i have done with him. The circumstances of this past week are unfortunate but coming together and using our voices is also very important.

If you're a former WHS musical performer and there's anything you wanted to do to help, or if you want to voice your opinions please email: feilj@mywusd.org and let him know how this impacts you and other things that maybe can help. by @austenisgnarly
