She's a woman. You're not supposed to understand her. That's not what she's after.... She doesn't want you to understand her. She knows that's impossible. She just wants you to understand yourself. Everything else is negotiable. -Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash #abstractart #art #scifiart #acrylicpainting #color #DTLA taken in DTLA by @austin__steele__

Yeah it's been a while, I know. Some personal projects, some traveling, but not enough painting. Let's see if I can fix that. #art #lumalabs #dtla #dtlaartsdistrict austinsteele.com taken in DTLA by @austin__steele__

With all the rain we've been having in SoCal lately (raining as I type this even) I've had time to tweak on a few studies for upcoming paintings. More stuff on the way! #girlsonfilm #art #artistsoninstagram #porsche968 #acrylicpainting #color #dtla by @austin__steele__

I am definitely not a formalist. I approach a painting like it's a graphic design problem, breaking up form and color in new and abstract ways that might seem aggressively random but in fact make perfect sense - if you squint a little.

In between working on classic car photography and alien industrial dystopias - see previous posts - my most ambitious current project is doing large-scale acrylic paintings. These are my attempt to make stuff as cool as Patrick Nagel did in the 80's. More to come!
