With spring soon coming upon us it felt right to share this.

Turkeys, fine wine, tight lines, and good friends.. What more can you ask for?
Well I’m sure for some of you reading this, this might not be everything on your list of a dream trip. For my good buddy Mike and I, it fits the bill. If turkeys aren’t your thing, imagine ducks, deer or elk. If you don’t like fine wine, imagine it’s an ice cold beer or your favorite cup of tea. If you’re not into tight lines on the bow of a 97 whaler.. I’m not sure I trust you enough for you to continue reading this anyways..
Around 7 or so years ago, I met this guy Mike Idell at an outdoor trade show. We had several mutual friends, many making their somewhat fresh starts out of school in the outdoor space, most of which were busy chasing fish or good times wherever they could find them. Seeing that these types of people were our mutual connections, I figured we
would hit it off right away.
Our first interaction was Mike coming up to me and immediately handing me a six pack of tall boys for me to pass out among my friends . A truly proper southern way to greet a new friend, especially coming from him (a Californian).
To say the rest was history is probably fitting here. We’ve gone on countless fishing trips since then including trips to the low country of Charleston, South Carolina for redfish, the Yucatan to get the middle finger from a bunch of close-lipped permit, the Keys to also get sent home with nothing more than some sunburns, tall tales of the fish that we
almost saw, and a few hellacious hangovers. In all those travels, we’ve always talked about going back to where each of us started pursuing such adventures in the first
place.

Happy 5th birthday to my best bud Tuco. Had a few of my best buds lose their dogs this year and gosh it just puts it in perspective how quick our time with them goes. It’s messed up that they don’t outlive us all. Truly seems like yesterday I was driving home from West Point with my little 10 lb wild fella. Now he’s surpassed my age in dog years, lived in three different states, driven thousands miles together, been sad, been happy. He’s never not there. We truly don’t deserve dogs. Tuco, if you can read. I love you bud. by @austin_stapleton

The Summer flowers are some of my favorite things about the season. It’s sad to see that they will be gone soon, but knowing that Fall will be bringing new life in its own way makes it bittersweet I guess.
You watch them change throughout the season, almost giving a physical timeline to how fast life truly is. They make you stop, sit ,and be still. They are all so intricate in their own way. There’s a lot of parallels with our own lives I’m sure, but whoever said stop and smell the roses really hit the nail on the head.
Anyways.. Deep for a Monday right?

Ever since I was young, watching fishing shows on Saturday mornings, I’ve wanted to catch one of these fish. Later, when I saw and read about people catching roosters from the beach, my desire to do the same grew even stronger.
There’s a special time and place when the stars align for checking things off your bucket list, and I’m so thankful I got to cross this one off in such an unbelievable place with some incredible people.
