New month. New profile. It’s time to get to know Austin Urch @austin_urch - #teamturbo racer since December 2024.

“While racing @barryroubaix1 , I remember coming face to face with ‘The Wall’ and hammering up that hill. I had been looking forward to it all morning. Flying up that hill and passing a number of other riders with a huge smile on my face was a blast.”

As summer gravel season winds down for Austin, he is gearing up this fall for the online @gozwift Zwift Racing League season starting up in a few weeks!

What a fun day zooming around at the Hampton Criterium! tried to channel my inner @corynrivera for my first crit race. I was quite apprehensive beforehand, but as soon as the gun, I mean whistle, went off, it was just like riding a bike…but faster…and with more people..and A LOT of accelerations. It was a fun time spreading the @ridewithturbo hype to the road scene of coastal Virginia. Stayed upright, surfed wheels and managed the surges. Even got to lead the pack for a bit, must have been the @lacolombecoffee giving me a little extra boost. Made it until 2 laps before the elastic snapped and I started drifting off the back. And then it was just a couple more minutes of emptying the tank and getting to the line and back into the comfiest clothes from non other than @daylightbrand_official

Next up in our WHO’S WHO AT BRX lineup is @austin_urch! A first-timer coming from Virginia, he’s joining his @ridewithturbo teammates after probably having some FOMO from all the fun they’ve had at Barry the past couple years. Austin has even given up ice cream until he crosses the finish line at BRX this year. Anybody else give up something you’ll reward yourself with at the end of the race?
Thanks so much, Austin, for sharing your story and for joining us, along with all your Turbo teammates. See you in April at that finish line 🍦!

“If you can’t beat ‘em, at least make ‘em laugh.”

a type 2 fun type of day out at the great dismal swamp trail for Conquer The Canal Time Trial. pushing the limits on a road bike with some clip on aero bars (just for show of course) for a dozen miles and meeting some cool @thrcycling people was a great start to the weekend.
threw down some @carborocket horchata recovery mix to get the legs ready to go for race week in Chattanooga

Another race in the books! This was my first time racing a distance I have done before so coming into it I definitely had some goals I wanted to achieve. Overall, it was a really good day. The water had quite a bit more chop than I was expecting and breathing was either into the ☀️ or the 🌊. A couple times when breathing, the wave rolled me over onto my back. But got through the swim & the long run up to T1. The bike was a fun course & due to my gears skipping around, I had to grind a bit more than I wanted. But averaged over 20mph (no aero bars) which is huge improvement. Coming out of T2 I tried to hold what I thought was around 8’s & caught up to some fast folks who were looking strong. Much more refreshing to only have to run 4 more miles instead of 24 at the 2 mile sign. I hung with them for a bit before picking up my pace with about 2 miles to go. Kept pushing & ended with 7:33/mile avg and a 10k PR by 3 minutes! Cut 26 minutes off my time from my last Olympic, seeing progress like that is really encouraging! Also got to meet some @team_zootmidatlantic2.0 folks which was awesome (they’re so fast) and race alongside @cgalb_99 for her first triathlon! Big race weekend for everyone between Boulder, Eagleman, T100, Des Moines, Western Mass, & indies. Time to get out there and get better, one day at a time! taken in Jamestown, Virginia by @austin_urch

What a day. Smashed some goals and missed others but a good day was had. First and foremost a huge thank you to the wifey who has supported me so much over this journey. From being woken up by early morning bike rides and swims to tolerating me getting home 2 hours after work due to getting another workout in, you’ve been fantastic and I could not have done it without you. To the rest of my family, thank you for believing in me and telling me that this was something that I could do. Even when I doubted myself, your voices of reason (or lack of) kept me going. To the Degens, having y’all by my side on this wild ride has been the best. I could not have gotten anywhere close to this point without y’all pushing me and more importantly pushing yourselves to show me what was possible with consistency, hard work, and encouragement.
🏊‍♂️ - shoutout to LePage for starting the swim out of his comfort zone so we could begin at the same time. Genuinely one of the more difficult things to do, starting a race of this magnitude out of your wheelhouse. But you did to calm my rookie nerves and so I thank you. I remembered to take the tag off my wetsuit before the swim started since this was my first wetsuit swim. Also loaded up on body glide around my neck too, you can never have too much. Got into the water and was able to settle in pretty quickly and find my rhythm swimming. Got through about 15 minutes and felt like I was holding a really good line the entire time. I was able to glide past other athletes easily and create space for myself. Got around the turn with a bit of congestion but settled back in. A little past the halfway point, another swimmer kept hitting me but I was able to quickly put in some effort and swim around him to get back on track before the canal. It was super nice being in the canal with all the supporters and spectators lining the sides but its narrow channel made it difficult to pass people so I slowed down a bit and sat in towards the exit.

Good times, a good race and a bad elbow. Finished 6 minutes slower than my goal time but 6:36 for my first 70.3, I’ll absolutely take that! Definitely things to improve on in the future but looking forward to making more gains! Next on the radar is the big one at #IMTX and I’ll be looking the part as well thanks to @zootsports! #TeamZoot taken in Downtown Augusta by @austin_urch
