There’s a huge difference between living and being alive. This is what Rachel reminds me of daily, just by her being her. It’s not a wash, rinse, and repeat kind of life. It’s a constant search for beauty and how it can be shared with those we care about. It’s a nonstop train to pursuing dreams. And every mile we travel together, it’s a reminder that there’s always more on the horizon to discover in this world. I have no doubt we’ll continue to explore every facet of it together. The premiere of @blamemovie2021 was absolutely brilliant, and I’m so grateful to everyone who came out to see it first! It was such an honor to sit among family, friends, and all of the hard workers who made the film possible. We left with nothing less than a mind-prickling, visual feast!

This past season has introduced new trials and turmoil for many, and I am not an exception. My wife and I had the joy of meeting our son, only to discover that we would not have him in our lives for long. It has taken time to process such drastic shifts in what our realities became, but in doing so, I have found myself grateful for the time we shared with Atlas Rayin Brook. Though his time was short, he has become one of the greatest mentors I’ve ever had; I would trade anything to have him whole and here, but I will not use my sorrow to diminish the lessons he left for me to learn.

Through the feral heart of my wife, the strength of family and friends, and an understanding that tragedies don’t determine who you choose to be, it is with a happy heart that I can share that we are expecting again. I was recently asked what I hope to teach the little one on the way. For that, I wish to pass to him, and anyone who cares to read, the lesson Atlas instilled in me:

I want to share that the greatest treasures this world can offer are hidden in the heart, and any adventure to find it is more noble, lovely, and full of purpose than anything anyone can dream or claim has value.

I want to impart that the key to discovering this purpose rests in the ability to use imagination, constantly seeking that which is unknown, and that within those dreams, the heart is ever changing. If one listens properly, it will guide you, and in this, hope will be the greatest ally.

Lastly, once these riches are found, I want to share that they never need protection. Even death cannot steal that which the heart has gained, and the more one shares the troves they’ve acquired, the more treasure will continually be found. Anything of true value only holds worth to the extent in which it can be given away.

Atlas was my own Little Prince. As we look to the night sky, I smile knowing that only Rachel and I will always have the stars that can laugh. Maybe through these words, the wonder of what it means to have had love will reignite, reminding all that any love experienced will always carry on. Thank you for being on this journey with us and sharing in our hope for new beginnings. by @austincbrook
