It's not every day that the classical music world collides with one of Australia's biggest pop spectacles.
When pop icon Kylie Minogue took to the MCG stage for the AFL Grand Final, she was joined by Kalkadunga songman and didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton for a powerful performance of Confide in Me. Accompanied by an extended version of the Australian Pop Quartet, Barton played guitar as Mingoue sang her beloved 90s hit. At the end of the song, the two high-fived as firework appeared behind them. This pop x classical cross-over was seen by 4.52 million viewers.

Kalkadunga songman William Barton is one of the most well-known yidaki players in the music world. He has performed for the British royals and shared the stage with Jimmy Barnes, David Campbell and the late legendary musician Gurrumul at New York's Carnegie Hall. Barton is particularly renowned for blending the voice of the ancient yidaki with the sound world of European classical music.

A pretty special moment for our own @airliekoomusic. ✨

Airlie had the incredible opportunity to bring together the string team for @kylieminogue’s performance of Confide In Me at the 2026 Toyota AFL Grand Final, and today joined her on the ground to perform it in front of a packed MCG.

From assembling an incredible group of string players to stepping out there alongside Kylie for such an iconic Australian moment, this was a huge one.

So proud to see Airlie doing what she does best, bringing brilliant musicians together and creating something unforgettable on one of the country’s biggest stages.

A very proud APQ moment. 🤍

What if The Fate of Ophelia belonged in a Regency ballroom?
Our classical version reimagines the track through strings, with all the romance, tension and drama of a period soundtrack.
