We’re living in a moment we might not fully appreciate yet, but history will. California is insane. Three decades in, I’m still consumed by its variety, landscapes, and cultures. No weekend feels identical. It’s given my life so much spectacle.

Try naming any other contemporary region or state that’s as crazy diverse.

San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station’s unique architectural design, often humorously compared to uhhhhh stuff, has made San Onofre a recognizable symbol in the Southern California region and iconic beyond it’s San Clemente home. But… Did you ever wonder like why it’s like that? Turns out there’s a perfect storm of nuclear engineering coming together to give San Onofre it’s distinct look.

The decommissioning of the station began in 2013 and involves the dismantling and removal of its iconic twin domes. As the demolition progresses and the once-prominent silhouette gradually disappears, it will mark the end of an era for the Orange County icon.

Accidentally set off by a construction road crew in 1956, the Portuguese Bend landslide in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, has been a slow-motion disaster ever since. This coastal region, slightly south of Los Angeles, known for its scenic beauty, saw the ground begin to shift dramatically, resulting in the gradual movement of millions of tons of earth towards the ocean. Homes, roads, and utilities have all been affected, with structures continuously buckling and requiring constant repairs. Despite numerous engineering efforts to stabilize the area, the land continues to move, making Portuguese Bend a poignant reminder of nature’s unpredictable power.

Also if you live in Los Angeles and you haven’t taken a drive around the peninsula, you’re messing up living here, it’s gorgeous.
