The Playdate Afterschool Community Lab is coming! ☀️🤸🏾‍♀️

We’re examining what happens when kids get the tools to become active citizens in their own community. We can PLAY, learn, create, collaborate, and make something meaningful together.

The Afterschool Community Lab is designed to help students build social-emotional learning skills through weekly projects, play, reflection, and community-centered activities. Together, they’ll explore what it means to care for themselves, connect with others, and make a positive impact in their homes, schools, and Jacksonville neighborhoods.

And we’re building something together along the way…

📖 The Community Wellness Playbook
Over our 8 weeks together, we will co-created a guide shaped by our students’ ideas, experiences, and learning throughout the program.

Our sessions will lead up to a special Community Wellness Playbook Presentation on Saturday, December 12.

Our Afterschool Community Lab will take place on WEDNESDAYS beginning

📍 Henry T. Jones Community Center

On this day, 12 years ago, I graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Communication.

In 17 days I return to UNF for my Master of Social Work program.

Kudos to me for finally figuring out what I want to be when I grow up. 📚✏️

While helping professions are being grossly disrespected by the current political administration, make no mistake that we are the soldiers the front lines need most.

I’m proud to already serve my community though my programs like heal + hang and The Playdate and my goal for this program is to learn how to take my community action forward.

How to properly assess the needs of my community or clients and make a real impact. What’s an “impact” for me? Leading folks to self-determination so that they have the knowledge and willpower to improve their lives and the lives of others.

If I’m honest, I’ve been avoiding going back to school for a while now.

My first go at college went well (I mean I graduated…) but there were definitely some bumps in the road. Now, at an age where I know myself and my calling, I’m expecting a different result from these next few years.

I’m ready for this new journey and I’m excited for all of the doors that will inevitably open in my favor. 🫶🏾✨

Did you know there’s an All You Can Eat Crab 🦀 Competition right here in Duval County??!!

On Saturday, me and my best girl @wendyanniaishangry got a chance to taste some of the best crabs Jacksonville and the surrounding areas have to offer!

This Crab Cook Off Competition hosted by @barbees_beauty_barn featured 3 crab vendors that got the chance to compete for the top spot in Jax.:
@everythangjuju (Jax)
@dots_pots_llc_ (Tampa)
Twon’s Crab Trap (South Carolina)

Guests were allowed to try all 3 competitors AS MANY TIMES AS THEY’D LIKE (read it again). In the end, @everythangjuju took home the number one prize 🏆

There were also vendors like @mooville_bakery_and_more providing sweet treats (biscoff ice cream with a dollop of banana pudding on top to be exact) and
@r4lemonade with sweet fresh lemonade 🍦🍋

I owe a HUGE thank you to my favorite taco lady in all of Duval, @cheniles_kitchen (make sure to see her on Tuesdays) for the opportunity.

And thank you again @barbees_beauty_barn for your hospitality and an AMAZING event. 10/10 ⭐️

We had such a lovely time creating memories and connections in Orange Park. And we’re excited to expand our joy, wellness, and play to Clay County families ☀️🤸🏾‍♀️

We had a TIME at @dtjax Art Walk on Wednesday evening! ☀️🤸🏾‍♀️

With the perfect weather it was the perfect time for play and connection in @jamesweldonjohnsonpark. We were so excited to host ALL ages and we’re glad everyone loved our parachute as much as we do 🩵
